# 1 Tactical Ground Tank
10-01-2011, 06:14 AM
About a month ago, I did "Infected" on my Fed VA Tac. It went fine until we got to the last room. I was on the jumping team, we did fine, that wasn't the issue. We were fighting the end boss and doing okay for a while, staying spaced apart and all that and then all of a sudden, four of five of us were dead, me included.

I was thinking, great, now we're gonna have to do that over again.. but no. The other VA Tac on the team basically says "Just stay there, I got this". He proceeds to, at point blank range, tank her and defeat her over the course of the next minute or two. He had a couple of close calls but overall, I was surprised at how survivable he was, he may have even had a bit of aggro from some respawning drones, but I cannot remember.

Obviously, this is something I should have asked him at the time, but I had too much else going on...

So I'm looking for advice on the most effective way to spec a tactical officer for tanking in ground combat, especially since I'm about to respec my space skills, so may as well do everything at once.

Any replies and help would be appreciated.

This is also something I would be incredibly interested in! I find myself as a Tac VA that I am constantly having to fill other roles due to a lack of understanding within anothers class, or that we have too many Tacs. I already carry a multitude of kits to fill roles other than damage, being able to effectively tank would be incredibly useful.

Well easy answer: You can't tank as a tac on ground. The only heals you have on ground as tac is either Large Hypos or a Science player next to you.

I would have to agree with M3w on this one, with it not really being possible anymore. It used to be pre season 4 and the new ground enhancements. You used to be able to tank using either the Squad Leader kit or the Security Protocol as long as you had points in the skills. My fleet used to "Tank" Armek from The Cure using tactical officers wearing the Squad leader kit, Polly Alloy Weave Armour and using a ground close combat weapon. But since the new ground enhancements the cooldowns are far too long to have a tact tank on his or her own. The only thing I can think might have happened was the tact you say was extremely lucky enough to not get flanked while he did what he did.
