If you don't like something, don't buy it, but fighting the implementation of something other players want is childish, impedes variety, and suppresses growth.
As I said above, Cryptic can only make product that CBS approves. But at the same time they also have a Tier strategy they want to adhere to. Some people might not like the Tier structure but it does server a purpose both as incentive to keep playing and as a reward system. It is just the way it is.

By STO standards (while Akira is a sexy ship), it is dated and substandard in technology to the Defiant or other escorts already existing. Defiant stands as T4 base, so it makes sense that with some modifications, a T5 can be produced.

Akira is T3. To suddenly jump that to T5 would be a bit absurd.

The game does make those jumps with the T3 Excelsior and Nebula, though. I think the issue, more then anything, is just that Cryptic has been caught up in FTP conversion for the last 8 months. And because of that a decision was made that the game needed more lower Tier ships (a decision I agree with) and that has put other T5 ship designs on the back burner. I assume a T5 Akira will get here at some point, but not until after FTP and after all the lower Tier ships are implemented.

implying a defiant class is half as powerful as an akira class is laughable. cryptic got the tiers quite wrong

I agree that the Akira should be stronger than a Defiant (it certainly faired better on the Sector 001 battle but then the Defiant had a Klingon in command). The Akira was designed to be a carrier after all.

However, the Intrepid, Galaxy, and Defiant were put in the captain slots since they were series headlining ships. I think that is why the Defiant was made a higher tier ship and it makes sense from that perspective.

That said, as a tier 5 ship, having fighters as a special skill would be a coll Akira characteristic. By this I mean they come with the ship and recharge without further purchaces.

while the akira class was originally designed as a carrier , the bay doors it has are nowhere large enough to support this in my opinion , but its listed as having bays large enough for 40 fighters as well as the normal complement of shuttles etc
Its alleged to have anywhere upto 15 torpedo launchers and being a torpedo boat as well , seems it could be changed for t5 to fill either the carrier or pt boat roles

the designer of the ship thought the carrier idea would be cool, but that concept got dropped. the final cgi model that was made for filming has no front shuttle doors and 2 small fairly standard doors in back. the akira carrier is not canon.

I was a tad doubtful myself , even if it had a door at the front , it looks nowhere large enough for multiple launches , makes much more sense as a torpedo boat

The door look big enough to me. And with 3 forward facing doors it could launch 3 fighters at a time followed by more in rapid sucession. There you go- attribute of 3 escort fighters.

those are windows. that forward section would need to be 3 of 4 decks high to be tall enough to launch peregrine fighter. that forward section is 1, maybe 2 decks high, and looks nothing like a section that would open up
