# 11 3v3 would be neat
10-10-2011, 05:49 AM
I think a different theme for a new tournament would be neat. While the point value system would certainly be different, I think a 3v3 tournament would be welcome.

As a fella who participated in the last OPVP tournament. I have to say getting the 5 people I practiced with during the week online for gameday was tough and even impossible this last week.

A 3v3 tournament would make it a lot easier to assemble teams for the tourney and would hopefully open the door to more competitors.

My two cents at least.

Anyone ever considered a 3v3 tourny with one of each class of captain and ship. Captain type is not restricted to ship type, but you can only have one of each type of captain per team. The toughest part would be the FvK matchup. Perhaps 1x raptor/bop, 1x carrier/varanus, 1x cruiser?

I think I have the most fun in 3v3. It's been a long time since I was a part of a 10v10, but I think those are really great too. 3 man groups I think are forced to be more versatile than 5 man groups, there fore cutting back on whatever "spammage" one might see.

Tarsis and Zed put a 3v3 tourney format together, very thoroughly thought out, called STO Champions. When they joined New Brave Vesperia that fleet was going to host the event, but for some reason it never launched. It seemed there wasn't more than 2 or 3 fleets that responded.

Just seems like a very easy way to make a sort of "stock" class with the idea that the better captains that play as a team will come out on top. Like horizon said, you have to be pretty efficient with your builds with only one of each type of ship. Im sure that's going to result in some pretty similar team builds. The closer things are to equal, the more it proves a teams ability when they come out on top.

The desire to do a 3v3 tournament is what prompted me to think this whole thing up, mainly because I was concerned about groups turtling with 3 tank cruisers and the match just going on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on......

Hence why I utilized a point system, mainly to ensure a level of speed and a limit of spam.

I do like Mustrums little point guide for ship types And the points look to be nicely weighted for team construction.

Then throw in needing a number of captain types, type of team (3v3, 5v5) and then you get some interesting dynamics!

I love the idea sivar and even posted earlier regarding the point system. It was half in gest but also I really think that because of the disparities between certain ships we may steer away from a class point system and maybe implement a per ship point system.

Example. IMO the bops and mvae and even defiants have a leg up on fleets and andvanced escorts

and Klingon cruisers have a leg up on fed cruisers.

And Klingon sci ships are not recognized as such, and are flown in a completely different gameplan manner.

Anywho, still love the idea. We should do some testing in private matches for further study. You guys know I'm game so pm @CaptainHorizon if you ever want too sivar, I'd be happy to join in some friendly tournament setups and tests to see what will work the best.

Have fun kill bad guys.

I'd also game for testing. If I'm on, it usually means I'm pvp'ing with a few of my fleetmates that have multiple ships on different toons. Shouldn't be a proble putting together a 3man team on the fly following that point system. Hit me up whenever
