# 1 Tier 6 Ships
10-18-2011, 09:08 AM
I read someplace that Cryptic was eventually going to add in another rank for all players, which would bring us another ten levels and a new tier of ships (rather than a lateral tier as with Vice Admiral).

My question is, does anyone know if they plan on keeping current endgame ships relevant? It would be kind of a kick in the pants to no longer be able to use ships like the Defiant-R, the Dreadnought, and all these other ships we've got for endgame.

I have personally become very attached to my Defiant-R, and I'm looking forward to trying out the new Quad Cannons... the idea that I wouldn't be able to use it at 61 doesn't sit well with me, though I can see them doing it. They're resisting putting out a retrofit of several popular ships like the Akira, so it wouldn't be too far outside the realm of possibility for them to leave most of the ships we're currently using behind.

Well part of the good news here is with the move to the abilities being console based you can take the quad cannons and put them on the t6

Quad canons are a weapon like Dual Heavy Cannons and go in a weapon slot

When it comes to level cap increase I too ponder how it will look with ships. Another tier would mean what? Bigger ships with more boffs slots? A T6 Excelsior with 2 Lt Cmdr slots?

I myself don't see much happening to ships without a revamp to skills and ships in general.

I know I'll be able to take the Quad Cannons, and probably the Cloak if it really is turning into a console, with me... but I'd rather still fly the Defiant, or at least something close enough to the Defiant, when I reach Tier 6.

I've always been a supporter of all ships scaling to rank. You unlock more as you go, but you can always stick with your favorites. I wish they'd do this.

While true, it would make me feel odd, if they added another rank of ships, but lets face it. I only wish that once we hit the new rank, our old tier 1 and 2 ships could get an extra console slot. I take my miranda class out to borg space with MK XI parts, she may not last long, but she can do support fighting

Why would it feel odd? We could start with the Odyssey class as a Tier 6 and build ships around that.

Question 14 asks when Tier 6 ships will be released, and is answered with "T6 ships are intended to be flown by Fleet Admirals and will become available when we up the level cap to this rank. No firm ETA on this but my best guess is that it is somewhere between Season 5 and Season 6."

It looks like it's something that's in the works, but as far as I know we have no more info than this, and I was just wondering if I'd missed something regarding how Tier 6 ships were going to work.

My guess is that current Tier 5 purchases will drop from 1200 to 800 Cryptic points, with new Tier 6 purchases put up on the C-Store for 1200 points... and the people who bought those ships get a "Well shucks, you can still fly those ships you bought around! They just won't be endgame anymore."

Technically the Retrofits are the tier 6 ships. You can only unlock them for free once you reach Vice Admiral. Then once you reach Fleet admiral the ships they would offer would then become lateral to the tier 6. They would have to update all the retrofits a little bit but this would be the way they do it. You take your current VA ship through all the VA ranks and then get a new ship at Fleet Admiral.

They need to rename the level 61 rank however. The idea of having thousands of Fleet Admirals running around space isn't exactly canon.
