People who pay a sub, or Gold Members shouldnt have to grind, they pay for the game. Silver members? yeah okay, they are playing for Free, so let them grind.

Basically dont take away from paying customers anything would be a good policy for cryptic, a good transition would have gold members enjoying a equal or enhanced game as is currently available on live, while the restrictions are in place for those silver players.

IMO, a week to get a new ship at RA is, if anything, far too lenient and think the pace is about right in F2P, and the danger of undervaluing the experience by making it too quick and easy makes it less fun by nature being less rewarding is great.

While there are absolutely (acknowledged) gaps in official content and there are way too many cookie cutter patrol mission used to pad the game, it is by no stretch of the imagination a grindfest, it's currently very casual-gamer friendly (in the context of the difficulty and the nature of the content and of how easy it is to reach max level). Currently I feel it's too easy and this undervalues the experience.

I really hate grinding and monotony (games /should/ be fun), but human behavior is such that - with players as with children - f you cave in and give everyone what they say they want just because they are being noisy (which doesn't actually seem to be the overwhelming view, judging by this thread) then - exactly as noted in the Path to F2P Blogs - it undervalues the reward and achievement and actually makes the game seem less fun.

The game is easily playable without having the latest-and-greatest gear at any given level, so it's not as if you are going to be noticeably hampered because you don't have the ship from the next tier up (at least on Normal level difficulty). If that were not true, I would agree that not giving players the ship automatically was bad idea, but it's just not the case.

I would have been fine with players waiting till about Grade 2 before being typically having enough to unlock the next tier ship, frankly (unless they had C-Store points and/or had been saving). The mechanic of having to think to save a bit actually adds value, if the balance is struck well. There have been *many* threads on the main forum that ships are too throwaway (personally, I'd eventually like to see the option to just upgrade them, at least to one tier up - perhaps as a compromise).

I want to work to get the best equipment. I want that "work" to be fun, it's a game after all, and I want to have lots of cool things I can reasonably acquire at a moderate pace (e.g. typically a new ship within a month or two, based on logging for a few hours each week for example) but I fully expect - and actually hope - there are cool things I'll likely never get, but can aspire to, because I just don't play that often. As much as I want cool new things, I always want there to be things to reach for.

The team seem very aware of the importance of getting the balance right from what I've seen (never an easy task when you are trying to keep disparate groups reasonably happy).

New Ship at Rear Admiral Lower Half was bloody intolerable and FAIL required me to get 10k more dilithium.

Yay I ranked up to Rear Admiral 1, cool give me my ship so i can continue playing and leveling... wtf? you mean i not only have to grind for HOURS to get enough dilithium? I also have to wait an entire DAY or MORE because i can only refine 8k dilithium a day?
Yeah.... its total BS.

Now when I play casually I usually only do a couple of dailies a day and a few other activities, that means the time it would take me to get a new ship would be anywhere from a few days to a BLOODY WEEK
A week of my time wasted on a grind, no story progression, no leveling, nothing but a grind in a gimped ship!
I also hate being forced to grind, i hate exploration and i hate 75% of the REPETITIVE dailies.
GIVE US BACK OUR FREE SHIP TOKENS ALREADY!

Seriously, this nonsense has to stop already, with this the game is no longer FUN.
Either put back the free ship tokens or drasticly raise the refinement cap and make ALL missions give dilithium.
Please get real I ran up to Admiral on a Lt com escort. It was not really that hard. Then bought the captain defiant to use til I had enough to grab my advanced. I agree that the 8k limit on refining is way to low, mainly because I can farm up 12k easily now in an hour. But complaining tht you can not continue playing on a captain ship at admiral. Thats a bit weak.

I think everyone one (VETS of which I am one of them ) is getting thier panties in a bunch over nothing.

WHEN the F2P patch goes live you will get Dilithium for:

1) Story line missions
2) Fleet Actions
3) Explore Missions (which I am with you all..I hate them)
4) Feature story missions
5) Speical events
6) Doff missions

From a Fed perspective you should have MORE than enough Dilithium by the time you hit RA to get your ships. That is in the Dev blogs... VA yes you may have to work for. But sheesh....how many of us took WEEKS of grinding (which I also agree...I hate grinding) to get all MK XI purple equipment, and MK XI blue consoles??? So big whoop...you now have to grind and extra week to get a VA ship. Its not like there is any other end game content anyway.

Now what I would like to see is SUBSTAINTIAL rewards of Dilithium offered for PvP events and Fleet actions at RA - VA... instead of doing the B'Tran, Deferi daily, Traeleus, Alhena, Shimar grind.... I am so sick of that grind on Holodeck!!! Or add some Daily missions in Romulan Space (why did the Breen and Devidian series get dailies....but not the Romulan?)

You realise that the original post is no longer "current" right?
