Will there be any other types of quad cannon, or just disruptor (Norgh refit) or phaser (Sao Paulo)?
I ask because on Holodeck my Klingon is specced into antiproton weaponry, but I plan to use the quad cannons on his ship; will I have to spec into Disruptors to get the most use out of the quad cannons, or is there some voodoo magick I could invoke to obtain some Antiproton Quad Cannons? How about being given a token with which we could purchase our favoured flavour of quad cannon; phaser disruptor, antiproton, tetryon etc?
And, even if the skill revamp does away with this necessity, I'd still like a uniformity in the colours that belch forth from my ship.
Presumably, the upcoming skill revamp will do away, in a sense, with the whole "Spec into weapon type X Y Z" in the same sense that it is now, and allow you to allocate skill points in a more meaningful manner.
The idea is, ostensibly, to allow you to put skill points into space and ground abilities, and feel like rather than paying more for weapon type A, your skill points are just you choosing to improve weapons. This way, you are not de-valuing your potential by 'wasting' skill points on a mildly different weapon whose performance isn't 'higher', but costs significantly more skill points. (Since, logically, you are getting the most performance out of specializing in just phasers or disruptors, as the other abilities are all significantly more expensive for procs that may not neccessarily be worth their weight in skill points)
But that is purely speculative from what has been previously inferred, and we really have no idea until the new skill system hits testing.
