# 1 Point Defense System Question

The Item Info states this console activates a Phaser Turret. It goes on to say it will target all nearby enemies with phaser cannon bolts.

To fully spec into this console, the skills required are

1. Starship Energy Weapons Training
2. Starship Cannon Weapons.
3. Starship Plasma Energy Weapons

Skills 1 & 2 make perfect sense. 3 doesn't however. Is it a "typo" error. Shouldn't it read:

Starship Phaser Energy Weapons

Aren't Phaser & Plasma different damage types? Can any Devs answer this? I'd hate to waste a Respec putting skill points into the wrong skill. Thx

I wouldn't respec either way for it until it's fixed. Somebody did a sloppy copy-and-paste to clone this thing from the old Automated Defense Battery, which was plasma damage. I do not know, however, whether this new one is supposed to do phaser or plasma, or what it actually does. You could check your combat logs when fighting something and only firing this console to find out. I assume it's intended to do phaser damage, if they bothered to change the text. I would not be surprised if it doesn't get fixed at all at this point, since energy types are going away in the new skill tree, and I expect they'll just leave any changes on this item, like all the items in game, to get done in the massive reitemization that goes along with skill tree revamp.

Turret boats must love this thing.
With a 4/4 weapons set-up theoritcally one could have 8 turrets, 2 micro turrets running.
Does CRF/CSV effect it as well as normal tactical abilities?
Or is it a Beam weapon? I have not tested it yet.

Turret boats are cruisers... this console is only usable by escorts.

If anyone here is running escort as a turret boat, you need an M107 .50cal in your face at point blank.

It isn't a beam weapon.

The console sucks if used as a carrier "destroyer", sure it can rip through a squadron of fighters, but it only runs for some pathetically small amount of time (10 seconds I think) and has a pretty high recharge count. So theoretically you could vaporize a carriers fist wave, but by the time the PDS has recharged the carrier has had AMPLE time to send out another wave or two.

Not a very good adaptment to the concept that was floating around the forums ( I won't say we came up with it solely on the Jupiter forums, but we had been discussing a PDS for months before this was mentioned).

You should not rely on the console alone for fighter control... It is a supplement to Scatter Volly, nothing more, nothing less.
it's a great way to get rid of fighters when SV is in cooldown, but an attack run with main guns will alsways be more effective.

Well thats an odd console for a Escort. Seems like they just copied the PDS pre-order reward and buffed it for..... escorts?

The point defence tower, is very useful to "clear" space. but the preorder defence tower, is better to overtime menaces. I just used the two of them... and the results are "interesting"... if you are fighting against borg, undine or Romulans.... Against "mega-super-plasma torp" of the final borg DSE, you still use your cannons to protect yourself and at your camarades (escort are goods making that work, even low level scort, but the borg center his attacs on any ships that destroy his plasma torp.... even if it is made for the most tiny ships on the battle).

If that consoles are more useful than two standar consoles... I cant say it... yet. If you aren't fight against above mencionated enemy, You can remove the preorder turret without remorse, and set any more useful console.

I understand that, but as this was the purpose of the console it falls decidedly short of this intended use. Sure, I concede that it works wonders as a one shot deal, but as a practical use fighting carriers (in addition to the other skills and weapons as you said) it is quite lacking.
