Currently the disable is overpowered when you match it with alpha strike. I've had it done to me and I've done it to people with my BoP. Sure it's a bit tricky to pull off but its not that tricky.
My suggestion would be to change it to a partial disable and have it only knock out engines for a few moments preventing a player from moving or using a skill like evasive manuever.
No. It's fine as it is and was actually nerfed now. While you're disabled your teammates are supposed to help you. Don't try to make this game pug friendly.

Well, it should be made pug friendly, maybe then PvP will grow. Not that I disagree with you.
Simple as that: Because the queue system creates 5vs5 matches, the game needs to have mechanics that promote teamplay, i.e. stuff that is only useful for your team / that you can't do on your own and need teammates for. I mean, even in a PUG a cruiser could *GASP* heal an escort or an escort could give a fellow team mate a tac team. If your team is not capable of stuff like this, you deserve to be be blown up and lose in the end. Just sayin'
I see no issue with PSW and have both used and had it used on me quite often in PvP.
I find the stun very short and hardly deadly if one is thinking on one's feet in PvP.
When coupled with a focus fire from more than one player then yes, PSW is a pain but still not OP just becuase somebody usede teamwork and forethought.
Adapt and use the counters to this already nerfed once ability.
I agree that teamwork should be rewarded however in this case teamwork is part of the issue. This is because of the speed of the attack.
Example: You have 2 BoPs decloak and focus fire. One of them uses photonic shockwave immediately after decloaking. Unless you screw it up you're guaranteed a kill almost every time because the victim is dead before they or their teammates can respond. If for whatever reason the target has already recently used their science team ability its even easier.
This kind of attack is particularly easy to pull off in take and hold missions where players slow their ships to capture points.
If players are in vent together they may be quick enough to help their targetted friend...maybe. However this game should not be balanced for Vent or Teamspeak players because Cyptyic doesn't offer a similiar voice communication feature ingame.
Also I think another important point was mentioned...that this ability was useful for scoring kills against premades. This very honest statement highlights exactly the problem. The combination of photonic shockwave and alpha strike isn't functioning to strengthen teamwork, but to circumvent teamwork.
As we can see with premades teamwork is obviously rewarded. Changing photonic shockwave would only strengthen the reward of teamwork not diminish it.

i thought they implemented vivox. although i've never tested it ..
well, even if only one team member is quick enough to throw a tac team the alpha is doomed ....
