I'm a lifer who has not been able to stay interested in the game long enough to get one char to admiral. How could I possibly recommend the game to a friend?

You know, in watchjng that - your logic seems flawed. If City of Heroes went F2P because (in your words) "It sucked..." (and not saying I agree or disagree); but then WHY are both STO and "Champions ONline going F2P again? (By that logic)

I definitely would recommend this to someone once free to play is live. I had a lot of fun with it for over a year. For free? what's not to recommend? I'd also recommend them to pretend the c-store doesnt exist.

I do agree that the monthly subscriber's have been badly treated. I recommended my friends to drop their subscriptions in June, they checked back in in July for Season 4 and I recommended by Aug that they drop their subs again.
