# 1 how to hull tank?

excuse me if this has already been covered (if it has, please someone provide a link so i can go to it easier), but i am a new eng. in a cruiser. ive read how to shield tank, but seeing as how the borg can make your shields useless, my question to you is.... how do you hull tank? what powers, consoles, etc.. are most useful?

i will be flying an assault cruise, mostly doing STF/PvE with the occasional PvP thrown in for good measure.

what weapons should i use? i use AP on my tac/escort to great effect- would using AP weapons with DEM 3 cause a good amount of DPS?

sci powers, i usually use hazard emitters/polarize hull and TSS/ sci team depending on situation.

tac powers, i honestly have no clue- im used to using cannon and attack pattern skills, so limited tac slots makes it tough for me to decide.

eng powers- the only one im for sure set on is EPtS 3- anything else im open too.

im not sure if i want to have a pure hull tank, maybe a mix between both shield and hull. but above explains alot. any suggestions?

Hull tanking is much less viable then shield tanking.

Effectively because Shields have way more 'hitpoints' then hull.

The only good way to hull tank is the Ablative ability imo



Seriously if u want to aim for hull tanking though, i can summarize a list of abilities which would help you;

- Polarize Hull
- Aux2dampeners
- Aux2Sif
- Hazard Emitters
- Attack Pattern Omega
- Attack Pattern Delta
- Subspace Modulator

+35 Kinetic console, some energy/hull console (cant remember the name)
more +35 kinetic console perhaps?
all the energy weapon resistance consoles are hull only so u can try that :p

^ everything mentioned here in some way resist your hull, even the smallest of things
Ugh i must have forgot a dozen more...

But I'd say, concentrate on your shields. And if you can keep them up its all ok No shield down, no ship down. (Take care of the bleedthrough though).

Also take at least a shield battery and Engi team for the nasty Shield procs

Edit: now that i think about it. i might try this out some day

outside of hazard emitters, what can help neutralize the borg shield... neutralizer? lol if it wasnt for that, id actually go more for shield tanking... would it help to shield tank and then have maybe 2 +35 kinetic consoles to help with the borg torpedos?

If you really want to hull tank, get 2x hazard emitters, aux to SIF 3 if possible or rank 2 if not, a couple engineering teams, and attack pattern delta. That will get you as much hull healing and resistances as you can possibly get through BOFF abilitise. Consoles you want neutronium or monotanium depending on what you want to focus defenses on.

Also since you are focusing on hull tanking, shield power should be at 25, and all spare power should be in aux, and if you're not teamed with a good escort, weapon power definitely needs to be maximum.

For offense, if you're worried about Borg torpedoes you need to get fire at will and/or be better at targeting them before they get to you.


That said, shield tanking Borg cubes is entirely viable with a pair of hazard emitters, though its easiest for science ships. Of course shield neutralizer is not the only problem, spheres and cubes also use tachyon beam which is quite annoying as well, but its more of a problem for escorts.

Borg tend to lead off with tachyon beam, so if you wait till they drain your shields, then hit emergency power to shields and/or transfer shield strength, you'll get those shields back and resists to keep them up. The only thing you have to worry about is cubes with the actual shield neutralizer, which has to be neutralized quickly with hazard emitters or your shields will disappear very quickly. Unlike tachyon beam, this attack can be evaded so keep moving to keep your defense rating high.

I would also suggest the new Point Defense console if playing on tribble, though you will lose a console slot for using. Its never-miss accuracy is very helpful for torps.

OOOOO ... I need to get one of those !

Point defense is absolutely great for fighters and incomming plazzy !

hazard emitters is the only thing that will clear the debuff.


however, my engineer in a star cruiser, with aux at base power 75 (boosted to close to 100 with efficiency skills) and using sci team 2 or TSS 1, the shield neutralizer has little to no effect on me

True, though I was only offering an idea to help against incoming Torps.
grab the PDS from the pre-order if you have it, it helps as well and be mounted on any ship.

Seems the ingame is only for Escorts (seems kinda silly) , but there is a pre-order version that mounts in any Tac console slot.
