We used to have a very popular RPG thread in this very Ten Forward board. Lol, none of us have figured out what made it so popular (got up to 535 pages).
Its got a link to the OOC thread in the first post, so I won't include a link to that here.
There were also other RPG threads, but they all died rather quickly. Hmm, makes me think....I have a 'traditional' 'for fun' thread I usually post on the forums I frequent.....I think I'll post a copy here too.
Well there are plenty of RP fleets out there, my own included, but I can't recall seeing RP by post before. But then again, I wasn't looking either. Sounds interesting enough.
Quick note about the 'ol 'Bar And Grill' type RP I started: You can throw continuity out the window, lol. I've seen previous incarnations have tank battles come rumbling through (one even had a full Q-vs-Q fight), yet it was like nothing had happened in the end....if that makes any sense.

I tend to prefer stuff that's more serious, based around missions with more of a focus on story that gives the posters something to do beyond just going crazy.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, Cor. Some people prefer play-by-IM (in-game using local chat counts as this) as, in part, its a very 'on your feet' style.
Personally, I like more freeform type RPing (and, yes, I've tried the structured format you described)...suffice it to say, I'm never been one to settle for being force 'inside the box', so to speak. I like it when my input actually has affects on the IC-verse and how things play out (one of the big selling points behind the old Clock RPG we had on the STO forums...lol, the 'planned' main baddy turned out to be a good guy, for example).
Actually the more structured trek RPs i've been a part of heavily encouraged having the peoples input change the outcome. It tought me that a good GM has the ability to roll with the plot as it moves along and is changed by the players instead of keeping to a rigid preplanned storyline. Having sturcture doesn't necessarily mean being 'forced inside a box'.
