I like the idea of using xp boosts on alts to get them out of the Lt/LtC grind.

The game starts to get fun at the Commander level, the two tiers before that make me want to eat my own face.

The proper solution is to make the lower levels not suck or make the % of character leveling lifespan that the suck levels occupy slimmer in general. Especially given that, until many months from now when everything has been remastered, there are missions tied to those lower levels.

This approaches paying for a bugfix.

It's definitely a start. At least I finally see the Excelsior getting the treatment (I would definitely grind the marks for it). I'd still love to see the other stuff earnable, though. I do love the idea of being able to craft your own shuttlecraft.

Another thing...I've seen this so-called "Q fountain" mentioned a couple times. What the hell is it and what does it do?

Until next Wednesday (1 week after the 1 year anniversary) you can go to Club 47 in ESD, and talk to Q. He will give you a daily, in which you go to a fountain outside of Quinn's office, and play in it. It will randomly give you an item, including some C Store items.

To add info: When you talk to Q for the first time he will offer you a Trivia Quest. Once you complete that, you get access to the "BeQuest" Daily mission that gets you access to play in the Fountain. And before you can call foul :p - Q has also made a similar appearance and game at Qo'noS. As soon as you beam in you'll see him there... Same quests are offerred, though instead of a fountain, you get a stack of Giant Tribbles to reach into and pull out your goodies. It's a lot of crap, but there is some gold mixed in there. I've received a mix of level 1 tribbles, various consumables, but also a couple of Rares and Very Rare items (over assorted Marks, not necessarily scaled to the character), and even one of my Feds got a Targ Pup.

FYI The Fountain (and Tribble stack) is "buggy", read about it here:

Oh, and back to the XP Boosting Items, one of the prizes you get from Q's Trivia Quest is an 8hr XP Booster. This version is bound so you can't trade/sell it, much to the shagrin of my VAs and LGs.

However, my Alts were very pleased. I agree with Squidheadjax, the lower level missions could do with work, I still like the XP Boosters. I've got 11 characters (with thoughts to more). I don't have time to really play that many, mostly, I just want to be able to try different builds (Tac in Cruiser, Tac in Sci, Eng in Escort, Eng in Sci, and/or Sci Healer vs. CC, etc.)... I wish there was a way we could either A) Completely Retrait/ReClass our End Game (or whatever) level characters or B) Once you Reach Rank X with a character, any new alt you make can have the opportunity to start out at Rank X (or X-1).

I'm just liking the idea of XP Boosting items for Alt leveling. I like the idea I could get 'em via drops. I'm thrilled at Q's gift. And an 8 hour one to boot!

Do I actually plan to buy more Boosters... Hmm... I dunno. Maybe. >shrug< I suppose it'll depend on if the 8hr version really feels helpful.

Anyone spending the overpriced costs to buy an XP boost is mad. You can level quick enough without them.

8 hour XP boost for 700+ Atari Points? Oh dear....

# 527 XP boosts not a problem

I don't want to see StarTrek Online go Free to Play myself. Not when the current model has brought such great content.

I don't see any problem with XP boosts. In any way.

In fact, they are incredibly fair, people who cannot afford to buy them can still get the same XP but just a little slower. People who work hard and have the money can get things faster. All seems perfectly regular.

Suits my grand strategy just fine (whhoooooaaaaaahhhahh!). I can't wait for the boat loads of inexperienced PvP lambs to the slaughter! Experience cannot be bought, it's only gained through trial by fire.

I at one time was against STO going F2P. I have since changed my mind. I am all for it, mostly since lifetimers and the folks who continue to pay monthly will get a monthly stipend of AT. So once the game goes F2P I will start buying stuff from the C-Store, until then, just a waste of money.

# 530 Another XP Boost.... Really?
11-25-2011, 01:58 AM
I want to say first, that I'm sorry if this is in the wrong place right now... I'm still learning my way around forums. Next, I'm not sure that I agree xp boosts are so bad. However, I am bothered by a couple of things... One: I am a VA1, so what is the point of handing out these xp boots like there candy when as far as I can tell, I CAN'T USE THEM! So far, they're absolutly meaningless to me. That was bad enough and Second: I can't even give these things away. Why are these xp boots bound to my character who can't go any higher? I don't want to be rude, but this seems like another example of criptec giving us somthing that is actually nothing.
