Here are my ship's stats, both on tribble and on holodeck, for comparison. Stats that did not change are not listed. Stats are for a RSV. All stats listed with 125 aux.
All other stats were the same, despite having more overall skill points in them. *shrugs*
The stealth detection rating is a huge hit, especially considering that this is what science ships DO. This nerf is compounded by the fact that stealth can now be specced into.
Power transfer and hull repair are now specced in to, giving the increase. No clue where the 1% damage resist came from...
The crit rate and crit severity no doubt drop because i specced into projectile specialization, but not energy weapons specialization.
The decrease in full speed and turn rates are inexplicable, again despite having more overall skill points devoted to those stats (+99 in starship impulse thrusters).
No idea why, with the same amount of skill point change (+115 on holo vs. +117 on tribble), TSS 2 is over twice as strong as it was before, while all other science skills are 7-12% weaker.
I'm not saying that science ships will now be unplayable, but these changes will nevertheless hurt science ship captains.
Another point: why nerf an ability and then make it harder to obtain (CPB 3)? All that does is further limit the ways a player can play the game... and believe me, the STO playerbase and fans want MORE ways to play, not less.
nope, its just that no-one is trying to follow the reasoning of Cryptic anymore. They want to nerf us so we buy T.5 ships, and the game takes longer, as there isn't enough content.
Short n simple, all the other stuff about simplification and greater flexibility is just a giant heap of PR BS
The reduction in effectiveness has hit all ships in one way or another. Personally I think healing continues to win out over all else which benefits Cruisers and Science ships quite a bit. But it does seem that this tree makes it more difficult to achieve what anyone already has on holodeck.
Also, you may need to tinker around with your skill points a bit as some of your values seem wrong. Charged Particle Burst 3, for example, last I saw was taking over 6k on tribble.
I feel nerfing is a lack of imagination and an overall lazy approach to a game such as this. Here you have the major militaries of the quadrant at war or near it and we have no arms race. ID inbalances and make consoles, weapons, equipment, and devices to counter them. If the Russians build a new jet that is better than the US, the Russians don't nerf them, the US improve its own.
"Balance through superior firepower!"
I am really tired of this cookie cutter approach for everything, consoles should have multiple bonuses and those bonuses don't need to be equal between consoles. I am not talking, white, green, blue purp. THat is just a longer drawn out linear model.
All weapons and equipment have plusses and minuses. In STO they are all pluses.
Of course your consoles might not be the latest and greatest as time goes on, but so be it. My computer is old, and I have to buy new components periodically. Not like I need to horde all the EC I have anyways. I feel like the Bill Gates of the Alpha quadrant, I can't spend EC on stuff fast enough.
Everyone gets nerfed, not just science. However, science has always been more M.A.D. (multiple ability dependent) than cruisers or escorts, and the new skill tree definitely hurts science even more than before.
But yes there are some glaring issues like stealth detection which was already frustratingly near-useless, and this massive nerf to make it half of what it was is just absurd. However cloak has always been possible to spec into, it was just never obvious, nor necessary. Speccing for cloak has never been important and as far as I can tell, it still isn't relevant.
