No, that is not THE reason that Sci is commonly deemed OP, but a contributing factor.

And out of all 3 classes, a Sci most definitely wins in terms of damage mitigation while still being able to maintain steady damage output.

and with the way current torp skills crit gives sci less reason to run any weapon power when a shield strip/CPB build with a low Tac skill like TS makes it as formidable as a cruiser and can have escort burst.

Its the best of both worlds without the weakness of the squishy escort and pig that a cruiser is.

I completely agree. It's the stacking of abilities that make it ridiculous. Either have it so there are diminishing returns if they are stacked or something else.. ideas?

Interesting idea. The more stacked in one area the less the effects?

It'll be interesting to see how Sci plays out now that there are resistances to basically every Sci ability. For example, it's now possible to get a ~6000 CPB 3 but you can skill into a CPB resistance.

Yes, not my idea initially, can thank trip for that. I recall piping a 5 man sci team using three of each ability at the same time, literally nothing you can do, even on a balanced team.

Although with the above post, I am curious as to how these 'sci resists' will play out with the new tree. Suppose all this is just good conversation until the f2p changes are in... or as I call it "Cryptic presents STO for the first time" Here's hoping

It bears thinking on I think. FF didn't work, maybe this idea would.
