Greetings All,

I was just tuning into the Stoked 108 and heard that we値l soon be getting hit with a massive skill revamp that if I understand correctly will see us loose a huge chunk of our skill points that we could use for space skills that will now only be available for ground skills.

On top of losing maybe 50% of our space skill points, we値l also be paying higher skill point costs for many lower tiered space and ground skills.

I feel that these proposed changes will only serve to weaken my space combat experience which is my preferred choice of combat.

Now if it was clear that I壇 not be losing my effectiveness in space and gaining the options to delve into ground skills, then I壇 have no problem with it but that does not appear to be the case.

I think what痴 upsetting me most about this new space and ground skill revamp is that it seems that I will be also losing my freedom of choice over how I want to build my Characters.

Will there be an option in this new revamp that will let us choose to forgo specing into any ground skills and use all of our skill points for only space skills?

How will being able to train Captains skills be effected by this skill split?

This new system makes me feel that I値l be forced to greatly water my characters down in space to pay for skills that I most likely won稚 want to use on the ground.

If Cryptic wants me to start using ground skills, then they need to create a separate pool of skill points for the ground that does not affect my current pool of skill points that I use in space.

Bear in mind that this is only my point of view on this upcoming skill point split.

I am in the same boat as you. I am not sure I am going to like being forced to skill into something that I don't do. I have never liked the ground combat in this game and pretty soon I will be forced to spec into ground. Not cool.

If they want people to spec into ground; skill points from ground missions (or the ground part of a mission) will add skill points into ground point pool and space missions (or the space part of a mission) will add skill points to space point pool.

I'dve much preferred a system where each earned skillpoint becomes 1 ground and 1 space skillpoint that you can spend.

In that situation the split would actually free up the few points I currently have in ground to go into space, and then give me a full docket of ground points to fill out those skills.

I'm kind of iffy on it. While on one hand, I can see why players might want seperate skill point pools, or the ability to ignore Ground, I don't see why you'd do that.

Ground combat is inherently harder, and you have to do them as you level up, and by neglecting to ever put points into it, you're making the ground segments a lot harder then it has to be. So by kind of "forcing" it, they can at least fix that issue.

On the other hand, I think all my characters are more ground then space. It's just easier to overcome weaker skills in space, so I haven't put as many points into it. It also helps that space was revamped, so I only need 6 ranks in a skill to get training instead of 9.

just another of the "no change" changes. I'm at the point with the game that all I do is Doff then log, and even that is just once a day. They keep doing things to drive folks away or make them not enjoy the game. Don't FORCE anything on your players, that just ****es them off. When, will you guys learn this?

I don't understand the justification for subtracting points from space skills and forcing them to be used on ground combat. It's a nerf to players who prefer space combat...who I'd guess are a majority.

If Cryptic wants players to spec ground skills then double the total number of skill points given to the player and insist that they spend them 50/50 between ground and space. No nerf. Everyone gets a boost.

I'm a player who likes space and ground, and I like pvp, so maybe that is my problem,

but I like knowing that everyone I face has the same skill points to spend as I do....now there are uber space builds and uber ground builds that takes a great deal of the fun out of it.

You can call it a nerf, but it is really just the equalization of skill in each arena that I have been hoping for for a very long time.

I'm sure that I'm NOT going to like it. I don't see why anyone has to be FORCED to play in any particular way. It's like the mission progression on Tribble before they allowed skipping. You were forced to play every mission. And they appropriately changed it to allow skipping. This is the same concept. Why should I be forced to play ground missions if I don't like them? If I gimp myself on the ground and make it harder for me, why not? It's my character, and I have no one to blame but myself, and I can live with that. The reverse is also true. Why should I be forced into 25% only ground if I want more in ground?

I have several characters, and I like to specialize. I have a space only character with no ground skills. I have a tac ground specialist with A LOT of points into ground. She is specced for multiple different kits. I also have a more balanced character. But why should I be locked into a 75/25 distribution? People argue that it makes a difference when teamed on the ground, and that people with no ground points hurt the overall team effort. That is true, but it is also true that the majority of STO is played solo. So I can't see that reason being that big of an issue. Even in PUG STFs, the main problems stem from people not knowing how to play rather than poor skill point distribution (like people showing up without a remodulator, or with no hypos, or with no regenerators, or using dual pistols, or not remodulating even though they have a remodulator. The list goes on and on).

I hate the the new space setup the way it is. It was done for more reasons than for people to "fly any ship" they want. As this doesnt actually work anyway. As a sci in an escort needs to max out attack patterns to have more dps and debuffing,( i sure cant afford point in torps at all). Those that dont shouldnt even be in one. They hinder groups, not help them.

We all know why they are changing everything. To drop the learning curve for f2p. In essence, making it idiot proof. If im forced into a the split, my sci/escort will end up being useless, or stuck in just one ship type anyway. So much for thier big selling points on the system.

What they should do, without killing our points we have now is simple, and it still makes it idiot proof. Leave our points we have alone now for space, the CREATE ground points to use in ground. So we have 72500 or whatever it is for space, and add in points for ground. Or ..... take the cap out for gold subs, that should get them money too, which is why the whole revamp was done anyway.

Still, the fact of the matter is, every change is aimed at selling items from the store. Sooner or later they will have an item that will allow for more points. Most likely in a grab bag. heh Arguing that this is not the case, is, well Futile......
