I have been thinking about picking up the Guramba for a while now , and now it's time to think about how to equip it and what character to run it with ?
As to characters , my options are a Tac or and Engineer .
As to weapons ... -- from what I understand the Quad Cannons take away from your engine power .
Will they hurt the Guramba's maneuverability too ?
* note : I have yet to get either the Guramba or the Ning'tao at this point , but I will get the Guramba in the upcoming sale .
theoretically, the quad cannons do take away power from your engines. however, consider this. If your cannons are aimed at your target, then maneuverability isn't much of an issue at that moment. Plus, the power drain is minimal, and I've never actually noticed it.
That being said, quads aren't any better than dual heavies, and in some cases duel heavies are actually better than quads.
I have a Grumba and I have the ship the quads came on...
The quads are...meh...
Certainly not "the most powerful cannons in the game" as they were advertised.
They're nice until you unlock the Mk XI gear, then, there are too many other weapons that do more damage without the power drain.
If you really want to use the Quads, be sure to pick up that Nausican destroyer with the power leach console, that'll solve your weapon power issues forever.
My quads are now forever in the bank and I so wish I had not wasted the Cstore points on the ship.

True , but what I was thinking about was that if you tangle with an Escort in PVP , movement and maneuvering is important . If the energy drain to the engines effects the speed at which you can maneuver , that that is a consideration .

Any chance for an example ?
I'm asking because if I'll fly with an Engineer , then power won't be an issue . If I'll fly with a Tac , then power drain does matter .
Or were you talking about something else ?

Hmmm ... , I was sad to read your comments .
Some ppl are very happy with the Fed Quad's , and some are not (maybe because expectations were high , and they and we didn't get an I WIN button) . OTOTH it's not a reason to cry NERF ... , so that's good too I suppose .
Last question :
For the Guramba -- all dual heavies , or a combo of heavies and dual heavies -- what would you recommend ?
Dual Heavy all the way. The only real question is to go with all cannons, or cannons beam bank, or cannons torp. When speaking of cannons its always heavy, no real reason to go with normal dual cannons.

They look cool, sound cool so if that's what ya like, then they're nice.
It's not that they're bad or anything, but if you're looking for max DPS there's better choices out there.
They'll do nicely in most PvE, but for PvP and the STFs I'd want want DHCs.
And yeah, I've got all Dual hvy up front, with 1 Torp and then all turrets in the rear.
