This has probably been answered asd nauseum, but as I am unable to find any answer, I shall ask.
Is the Omega\MAKO space gear better than the Aegis or original borg? My main character is an engineer running a cruiser. If so, would someone also kindly point out where I would be able to learn how to better run the space STF, as I would rather not be the fourth bad player in a five man team.

I cannot say for certain that any one set is the best. As I have stated before in other threads, 'Better' is a relative term.

Each set has its own bonus(es), so you'll need to look them all up and figure out which one will work for you. Me, I run the Borg Set (On an Advanced Escort), for several reasons.

1. The Engines up my sector travel speed to Warp 14. Cuts down travel by a significant amount.
2. The heavy duty plasma resistance. It helps.
3. The Borg tractor beam. I like the beam in the first place, and this way, I can retrain my science Boff away from that, and put in a different skill.

Conventional wisdom seems to be Borg Engine, Deflector, and Console with a shield of your choice (preferably one with a high cap like the Aegis, Reman, MACO, etc.). You get all the Borg perks minus the tractor beam plus a high shield cap. I run this with a Cov. Cap x2 Borg shield on my escorts and Excelsior retrofit.

If you want high Cap then the Paratrinic is available as a Mk XI now; the Cap on that is very high but it has terrible regeneration rates.

Personally, I prefer a shield with a high capacity, and a [Reg] or [Reg]x2 (If possible.
