while i would agree with this statement, the truth is that as the fan base is getting old and Paramount/CBS want to continue to gain numbers in the fan base, creating something that caters to a younger audience makes plenty of sense.
once they see new trek, people get interested in old trek and in that, create a relevant and renewed interest in the series... at least that is how it is supposed to work.
to say CBS is run by a bunch of money grubbing show killers is not too far from the truth but at the same time, we can't have everything for free.
Original TOS was "an action movie"? Are you from a parallel universe or something?
That's not what I said at all. I was referring to how the original series was an action based show, and that the movie took that style and ran with it.
TOS really is like an action movie. Kirk got the women, he made sarcastic asides, and he fought sweaty and (sometimes) shirtless while jump kicking people to the future.
Anyone who thinks TOS is purely a heady drama, kind of missed out on the fun the series had that didn't return (imo) until Enterprise.
and Pike in The Cage. no ship's captain in any of the series, whether regular or guest cast, ever said "punch it"
Sorry. I'm a "TNG Kid" . I'm not saying I heard Kirk say "Punch it" or at least when it came to moving through space at least. Kirk might have said it but it probably was something to do with an alien on the ground we never saw again.
Weird thing is just did a space mission in TOR that I've been doing for a long time. And a companion says "Punch it". Before this thread I just didn't pay it much attention but now every single time he says it, I get a chuckle out of JJ's Trek doing it too.
What would help the Star Trek franchise more would be a new tv series. New costumes, new ships and a deepening of the lore in general would help revitalize the fan base more than a movie prequel in an alternate timeline ever could.
I don't think I've ever agreed with a post as much as this one.
