# 1 WTF Level of Manuverability?
01-18-2012, 12:37 PM
Tried out some PvP recently, and while died a lot, generally had fun.

Something that caught my eye was a few escorts that ungodly levels of speed and maneuverability for an extended time. Their ships were doing loops around my ship and making my defiant look and feel like a Galaxy class slug.

While I know evasive maneuvers can give ships the boosted speed and turn rate, these ships seemed to go for a long time in super speed mode. I generally have around 50 power in Engine/Aux, and am wondering if it is a speed/aux setting, or if there is some phantom abilities I seem to be unaware of.

I'm also not sure if I would want to do these actions, as I'm sure the screen must be spinning in some sort of vomit comet ride.

The best way to find out what is making someone do something you don't recognize is to ask them how they do it. Other than that, there are several abilities that can increase speed and turn rates. Aux2Damp, Attack Pattern Alpha, ramming speed, EP2Engines, deuterium surpluses, oh and just good old fashioned Engine Batteries (and others I'm sure I'm missing). Also, running high engine power helps too. Some pilots like to be nimble (good for defense) and will only switch to attack mode when their buffs are ready.

edit: Aux doesn't affect turn rate at all. It used to, a long time ago. Just ignore the game when it tells you that.

I've been out turned a lot lately too, including many buzzfly moments like you describe. I think it's because a lot of people are running one of the new sets or some sort of hybrid of them, while I'm still in the dark ages using Aegis. I got some grinding to do this weekend...

I was about to post a thread like this too.. I run a fleet escort with a sci captain and recently it has been REALLY hard to keep my cannons on target (well, except for cruisers but there's always someone decloaking behind me anyway...). I'm even using an RCS console and it's still hard. Also I'm having a lot of trouble trying to get people on target and activating the abilities at the same time.. LOL

i think the OP is seeing the bug with the gravametric anchor which is supposed to when used against an enemy do -8000 to turnrate makeing them unable to turn, right now its bugged so its instead gives +8000 to turn rate (rather funny if a carryer gets hit by it or the transwarp gate in STFs both start spinning like crazy)

STF Omega shields give speed and turnrate boost while taking energy weapon damage. They nerfed it some recently, but I think it's still pretty large. Combined w/things others mentioned and it'd be hard to keep up unless you nuke their engines.
