Here is my 2 cents.

While a BoP has less hull and shields then the Raptor and a slightly better turning rate it is by far the best ships for PvP. Now for PvE I would have to say they are about equal except in STF.

Unless you are one hell of a good BoP pilot in a STF its just to squishy unless u stack up on shield and hull heals/buffs. If you do that then your DPS is sucking. With the BoP's way lower Hull and Shields it takes far less to kill them esp. the B'rel. Oh and did I mention lack of crew which means lower repair rate too.
The battle cloak can be a very awsome and deadly tool if you can learn to use it properly and for the B'rel the Enhanced BC is even more so.

The Raptor is a nice ship had more hull and shields and over double the crew at tier 5 then the same level BoP. The turn rate is less but If I remember u can get a consol to fix that or use a skill for turning faster when needed. So a Raptor will take more damage before it goes BOOM and has one more rear weapon slot. Which is that big a deal if your using turrents. Try using the 250 degree Beam weapons. With FIre at will or BO they can do some good damage when turning to face a enemy.

Again if you can learn to fly the BoP with the universal BOff slots you can make it a tanking BoP or a pure DPS smashing beast that goes BOOM real fast. Dont be afriad to hit that battle cloak but try to always have a hull heal ready for that massive amount of incoming damage.

The Raptor will let you live longer and not go BOOM as much and maybe give you slightly better DPS and is alot easy to learn to fly.

I'm not necessarily sure about it being a Defiant-R clone. It feels more like a Fleet Escort with a cloaking device to me.

My two cents. Choose one, and work up the 150,000 dilithium in order to get both.

Yes, Bird of Prey is squishy however if you equip things that give you damage resistance (like Devidian Battery, Polarize Hull and using Brace for Impact whilst equipping nothing but Neutronium consoles in your engineering slots), the damage you receive from your enemy can be cut as much as 50%.

With only half firepower reaching your to give you damage, then you stand a much better chance. Raptors can do this also however the Bird of Prey is a deadly opponent when used right (especially the Retrofit, god what a ship!)

I know this is a BoP vs Raptor, but take a look at the Guramba. I am using one and like its Boff layout and "free" BO. Howerver, that the only thing I like about it. Not a fan of the style or shape of the ship.

I'll probably get one eventually because I really like the design, but for now I plan to stick strictly with Klingon ships.

Raptor is a frigate turns worse than all escorts but better than cruisers. Fully specced you can get over 45K hull. Its good for straight attack runs, think A-10 wart hog, it definitely looses turning battles against other escorts so you need to figure out a way to get some distance to keep a nimble escort in front of you. At least that is how I see it I am not the best raptor pilot in the game but I think I am pretty good.

This isn't true. A raptor turns equally as well as a fleet escort, or advanced/MVAM escort that is in one piece. If you're having trouble turning, throw in an RCS console or two and run higher engine power.

I run a raptor on my sci toon, i use APO & aux to ID plus high engine power (50), & I turn ok. The problem with the Raptor is It's pivot point, which is at the very back of the ship, making it hard to keep cannons on a wildly maneuvering escort. At full throttle my base turn rate is 27 running the Aegis set
