How do you make such amazing screenshots!? Am I the only person on the planet who can't take a good screenshot? Seriously! I have tried many times and they turn out horrid.

I have a Win 7 64bit computer with a GeForce GTX 560 TI card.
8 gigs ram, Quad core CPU, High end ASUS board, 3D Asus monitor, etc...

I keep current with all drivers and run STO completely maxed at 1920 x 1980.

The game is crisp, clear, colorful and overall very pleasant on the eyes. Sure could use some polish graphics wise, but still very pretty with good effects.

Yet when I take a screenshot or video it looks like crap. The image looks nothing like what I see in game. It is washed out and blotchy or muddy at best. I have tried print screen, Steam built in screenshot, and fraps using lossless PNG and still it looks like crap! What am I doing wrong?

Here are some examples... This is nothing like how it looks on my monitor!

My ship is nowhere near as shiny and reflective and is rather dull and off color. Background is blotchy and muddy. Color doesn't blend nicely it ripples in chunks of ugliness like old GIF compression.

Love this guys name.. lol Get a feeling he didn't get a proper naming.

Notice how the colors are not blending right and washed out? There is about 100 times as much color and clarity on my monitor in game then the screenshot shows.

How do I get a screenshot that looks right? I hate how the colors look like a bad GIF as nothing blends right. I'd get better screenshots taking a picture of my screen with a camera. lol

I'd check this thread out is has some useful tips in it.:

Personally I bump all my settings up, use the 2 commands listed by Taco. Take the screenshot ("/screenshot" in the chat window) then bump things back down to playing level. Then I take them into Photoshop and do some enhancing, nothing major just: color enhancing, blurring or sharpening, resizing, & cropping. Just as I would with a regular photograph.

@PerRock Thanks I looked at the post and found a lot of great info. I also finally found out what was wrong with my computer when I suddenly started thinking about color profiles. Apparently Windows, in it's infinite wisdom, installed the wrong ICC profile and that was what was causing the poor screenshots. I switched to sRGB IEC61966-2.1 and now my screenshots look exactly like what I see in game!

I will use the info in the post along with my new found color profile to take some shots. When I get some really good ones I will post them here! Thanks again!
