most of the people on here seem to need anger classes, seriously i was playing the CE and there was like 1/3 of the team ***** fitting about not shooting the shards and 1/3 saying the opposite and the last 1/3 just generally moaning about both partys.
this community needs to man up, life is hard sometimes. the less you cry and moan the easyer life will seem.
So, that would make you the third third in this section?
I don't understand why STO was given to a company that has a string of fairly unsuccessful MMO's. STO could have been so much better; better customer service, better gameplay, better in every sense of the word if they had given it to a company that has had at least one MMO that lasted more than 2 years.
Um, "City of Heroes launched in 2004 and had been doing well for 7 years prior to going F2P; and that was Cryptic's first MMO.
Aside from Blizzard and World of ********, what MMO developer in 2009 would you say had a string of successful MMOs?
SOE hasn't had one since the original EQ (EQ2's sub numbers were lower then EQ's during EQ2's subscription phase. "Planetside" was a total bomb; and SWG underperformed so badly in Lucas Aryts eyes that they contracted Bioware top create it's replacement and gave them 6 years dev time and 200 million dollars)
Funcom was a laughing stock since it's HORRIBLE Anarchy Online release and subsequent repeat performance on "Age of Conan"
Mythic's "Dark Age of Camelot" was never a big hit; and Warhammer Online never really took off either.
Turbine's only real success was Asheron's Call (AC2 was shut down); and DDO was tne first western MMO to go F2P - followed by LoTRO; which BTW proved uunderperforming Western market MMOs could do better financially under the F2P model.
CCPs EVE Online has only ever been a niche game in the MMO space; and it took them 6 years after the initial announcement of the feature to add "Crew Quarters - the first step to walking in stations. Dust514 has been behind schedule, and CCP has been so 'successful' they had to do a 20% staff reduction"
BioWare has its hands full with SWToR; and overall, even with all the time and money invested, the EA Custtomer service so far has been called the worst in the MMO industry to date. And even the most ardent SWToR suopports will conceede EA's customer support blows.
Oh, and lets not forget Perpetual, who ORIGINALLY had the STO MMO IP for 4 years and had nothing to show for it past some concept art, concept documents and a few fake photoshop created screenshots.
My point - take blizzard and WoW out of the equation, and Cryptic seems no better or worse then any other MMO developer out there; and their first MMO - "City of Heroes" did well enough for NCSoft over its lifecycle.
So, yeah. That happened. Server is borked, has been for a good while now. I assume you're working on it, as I am fairly optimistic.
You're probably reading this thread, passing over all the ridiculous requests for "compensation", like free EDC's or whatever. But this downtime has interrupted a relatively short event weekend, and one very meaningful for the game. On top of this, it has reduced the amount of time available for these free giveaway items, most notably the bortaS and Odyssey. Some players might not have been able to play until this weekend. Others might not get another chance now that the weekdays are done. And this downtime has angered many just in general.
I propose, then, that the event be extended through Monday. A single extra day to make up for this downtime. An extra chance to grab the items for those who may have lost that chance tonight.
Perfect World has alot of games that have been out for a while. Perfect World, has been out since 2006, there is also Jade Dynasty, and Ether Saga Online. Saying they haven't had a game that's lasted more then 2 years is just untrue.
As already been stated, you can't count Perfect World Entertainment, they weren't there at the start, I'm talking about the developers, Cryptic.
So.. why is everyone crying about "scheduled downtime" when the title says "Unscheduled downtime" . Which I'm glad they are doing as I was having unusual problems earlier today. At least they are working on it right away and on a weekend to boot. It's a game. Put down the redbulls. Go outside. Let your eyes adjust to the light. And do something productive for once in your lives. =) I took my kids tobogganing. Welcome to real life. Cheers.
You do realise that it may not be to do with the size of the server, computers crash, fact of life, I am sure your computer has crashed at some point (especially if your running windows) or you have been affected by a company you use i.e. a bank, who are having problems with their servers, or you have been affected by some other ubiquitous computing crash sometime, have a little patience, welcome the break, go do something you have been meaning to do for ages but never had the spare 30 minutes to get around too. Roll another doobie and chilll out
Oh I am. My point is proper planning can prevent crash. They had the last six month to plan and prepare for this correctly. considering the had almost daily maintenance. I would expect far better. More important. I was around the last time FE came out and the servers crash when it was released. Next week comes the first new mission in over a year. If they can not handle today. They will not be ready for next week.
I be around if the server crash next week. I be around if the do that for the next four weeks. But how many of the new players will?
And crash is one thing. A melt down is another. considering there still down. I say we hit a server metldown.
