# 1 My Mystery Item Has Emerged
02-11-2012, 11:55 AM
I posted about this item that I had in my inventory two years ago when I played STO for only four days and didn't start playing again until recently. It was a special bonus item I had received for buying a deluxe edition of the game. I could not use it because it had no "Use" option and nobody in the game, forums, or even Cryptic tech support could tell me what it was. Support claimed it was a "bug". I contended that it was a special item that I received but could not use yet because I hadn't met a certain rank. I kept checking every time I'd rank up and it still had no specific info or stats to speak of.

Well, guess what? I made VA rank today and checked the item. It had a "Use" option. I used it and this is what it says now. None of this info appeared before. Now tell me I'm crazy:

So I figured this thing out. It is activated as skill. I now go Warp 27.32. I would have thought someone would have known what this was. Thanks, Cryptic Support, for telling me the item was a bug and had no use. Good thing I held my ground and didn't discard it.

27.32?

How is that possible when the max is 20?

The maximum warp can be increased via putting Ranks in the Drive Coil Skill.

slip stream didn't exist 2 years ago, it came wen the level cap became 50. and slip stream is not faster then warp 10, nothing is in the current warp scale. at best slipstream is warp 9.9999 or something, they just display warp factor all wrong in game

The Warp Scale does not apply to Slipstream travel as the ship moves outside of the quantum barrier while using it. In other words, it places the ship somewhat outside of normal space-time.

Did you not look at the item? I got this when STO first launched. And I am going 27.40 in a Cruiser and my Driver Coil skill is only at 5.

And regardless whether or not the "Warp factor" is accurate scientifically, you get across sector space a lot faster.

It sounds like you got an item somehow at the start that wasn't assigned... now that they've made the Advanced Slipstream Drive that they're going to put out with the new odyssey (Lasts 2x as long as normal slipstream) it seems like whatever item you had has the item ID for that (or something to that effect) and now you've got an advanced slipstream even without an odyssey. So now you don't need to buy one in the C-store to get the effect!

Maybe that's why mine says [StarShip]. I think it was supposed to be a ship, but they denied that.
