It means that you'll need to navigate to your Cryptic folder on your computer, usually located here:

Quote:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Cryptic Studios
From there you'll need to locate the following folders and delete the contents of them NOT THE FOLDER ITSELF:

Quote:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Cryptic Studios\Star Trek Online\Live\prepatch
and

Quote:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Cryptic Studios\Star Trek Online\Live\tmp
Keep in mind, I'm not an employee of Cryptic or PWE, so this may or may not do the trick for you. Plus, it could cause additional issues, please proceed with caution.

That's a new fix that I've yet to hear of or try, so thank you for the information, mate. I'm getting disconnected far less then half an hour in, usually within 2-8 minutes, so I don't think I'll be able to make anything worse. Heh.

Should I experience positive results, I'll be sure to inform the rest of you.

Edit:
Whelp, no luck on that method. However, I did notice that the Tmp file was missing altogether. I've run a few searches, but have yet to find it.

On a related note, I did find a file that seems to show the connection attempts on my side and their subsequent failing.

Now I'm obviously no expert in networking but, to me, those logs seemed to indicate failures in connecting to ports properly.

I'm not thinking that my router is the cause of the primary problem, as I've tried connecting while bypassing the router completely, but if anyone else has any insite into this, I'd be happy to hear from them.

The following was originally published here.

Quote:
A.Windows firewall blocking connection:

The most probable reason for socket connection not working in windows os is because of the firewall in windows does not allow the socket network communication. In Windows 7 and Vista you can solve the socket error by Opening a port for communication and allow all access to this port.

Steps to open port in windows 7:

Go to Control Panel-->Security and Settings-->Windows Firewall
Advanced Settings-->Inbound Rules-->New rule
Select port-->Click Next-->Select as TCP and Add Your Server Port

For Example For PHP it is 8080 or 80 port number and for mail service it is port 25 .
Do the same procedure for the outbound Rules.

B.Your DNS Name is not resolved properly.

If Your DNS name is not resolved properlly then this error might occur. In case of a localhost; If Your localhost is not Resolved properlly then you can try 127.0.0.1 this might work for you. example: http://127.0.0.1:80/webservice/nusoa...erver.php?wsdl
You can give this a try, if it doesn't work for you, let me know, there's more avenues to explore here.

Alright then, here is what I have to report.

Following the advice of the guide you sent, I added port 7099 through the firewall. Upon logging in with that I found that my character was invisible to me. Doors would not open when I moved close to them, unable to interact with NPCs, etc. I stayed connected to the server for about three minutes, roughly a minute more then usual, before being disconnected.

This is the connection log for this event:

120210 19:39:11 14 Client[0]: LoginServer link attempting connect: 208.95.184.43:7001
120210 19:39:20 15 Client[0]: LoginServer link disconnected (208.95.184.43:7001). Reason: socket was shutdown(0:No error) (socket error 0: No error)
120210 19:39:20 16 Client[0]: GameServer link attempting connect (208.95.184.194:7099).
120210 19:39:20 17 Client[0]: GameServer link connected (208.95.184.194:7099).
120210 19:41:43 18 Client[0]: GameServer link disconnected (208.95.184.194:7099). Reason: socket was shutdown(10060:Timeout on connection attempt) (socket error 10060: Timeout on connection attempt)

After this I added port 7001, despite the log not indicating that it was experiencing a 10060 error. Logging in with this I found my character being displayed fine, a small teleporting animation, door acknowledgment, etc. I stayed connected for a bit longer then last time before being disconnected.

120210 19:45:56 19 Client[0]: LoginServer link attempting connect: 208.95.184.192:7001
120210 19:46:06 20 Client[0]: LoginServer link disconnected (208.95.184.192:7001). Reason: socket was shutdown(0:No error) (socket error 0: No error)
120210 19:46:06 21 Client[0]: GameServer link attempting connect (208.95.184.54:7099).
120210 19:46:06 22 Client[0]: GameServer link connected (208.95.184.54:7099).
120210 19:49:14 23 Client[0]: GameServer link disconnected (208.95.184.54:7099). Reason: socket was shutdown(10060:Timeout on connection attempt) (socket error 10060: Timeout on connection attempt)
120210 19:49:19 24 Client[0]: ChatRelay link disconnected (208.95.184.43:7415). Reason: gclChatConnect_Logout(997:Unknown socket error) (socket error 997: Unknown socket error)

Now in regards to solution B, I'm not quite sure I follow what is being said by "If Your DNS name is not resolved properlly then this error might occure. In case of local host If Your localhost is not Resolved properlly then you can try 127.0.0.1 this might work for you. example: http://127.0.0.1:80/webservice/nusoap/server/server.php?wsdl"

I'm quite thankful of your assistance though. It may be helpful to know that I am running Vista and am also using Steam. Though I suppose Steam just runs the launcher, it may be the reason behind the tmp file missing from the Live folder.

At this point, you might want to try to disable the windows firewall altogether, you know, just to test. Once you do that, log in, I'll bet you can. Then if you can, you know it's a rule in the firewall. If not, there's something else going on, like a bad NAT or bad TCP/IP etc. When was the last time you reset your router and modem? If they sit for too long, (time frames are really irrelevant), they could break the TCP/IP Stack and you'll continue to have issues until it's rebooted. Just a thought and this is in response to your PM.
