This ship as beautiful as it is, is just one of the most unfitting ship in the game, at least for my playstyle.
I konw in serveral months i will try it again and come to the same conclusion: this ship just has not enough firepower, turnrate, ore tac bo slots.
A science Lt and a ensign, wow great.
Just 2 tac powers...

Why did the devs had to waste such a beautiful ship design to the most boring ship in the game, couldn't they just take the Fleet escort design for that role?

I am sorry but i am really annoyed at the moment.
I am not going to continue in this matter ... just ... ANNOYED!!
Yeah ... I was the same way since starting the game two years ago ... got a couple in mothballs in hopes that one day she will be updated into something I like better.

Different ships have different roles, it might not be the best ship for you, but to someone else I am sure it works great. Part of the problem on the Fed' side is that many captains (not saying you) think that no matter what ship they drive, it should be "hell on wheels" and try to be another Kirk/DPS king. This is part of why the Fed's consitantly outnumber the Klingons in the debris field after PvP. The Fed' side has a diverse range of ships, Star Cruiser included, and many are centered around teamwork and support. If this ship isnt working for you (despite your love of its appearance), try to find a ship that does. Do you know how many people that were hooked on the looks of the Pontiac Fiero and didn't buy one because it didn't perform?

I have a guy in my fleet that runs a Star Cruiser and he is a support king, and I really aprreciate it when Im in a ship/situation that my ship cant make up for. When I drive my Nebula, I am support and follow the group (when I can) and hope they work as a team as well.

Personally, I want both an improved Sovereign (so I no longer feel I'm giving up effectiveness by flying it instead of my Excelsior refit) and an Akira; bonus points if I can use some Thunderchild refit parts on the latter.

You are most likely right.
It is not that all my characters are flying a Star Cruiser, if it occurs from time to time, that i am so attached to this ship so i experiment with one of my characters with it until i am frustrated with it. Something like this happens around every 2-3 months.

My other Characters are Flying the Advanced Escort, Assault Cruiser, Dreadnought, Intrepid, Recon Science, and Defiant.
But the ship i like most (the appearance only) is the Star Cruiser. And i think to myself, man that ship MUST be good for something else than just to heal others. And i start experimenting...

I just find it extremely frustrating that the best looking ship (in my opinion) is also the one that suits the least to my playstile.
Other ships like the over 100 year old excelsior would work much better than this new and extremely futuristic looking beauty.

The only ones i can blame are the devs, couldn't they just take a ship like the Jupiter dreadnought or even a galaxy class to fill the role the Star Cruiser has to do?
Why on earth (and the known parts of the Galaxy) did they have to waste such a beautiful design for a ship that can do just one thing, heal others. (That would be ok if we could change it to a certain degree.)
Shouldn't they have taken something like the Tier 3 science ships?

Why do Starfleet ships (one of the most technically advanced organisations in the galaxy) don't have at least one universal Lt or Lt. Cmdr. BO slot, but over 100 year old designs like the BoP do?
Stuff like that make me real angry. They where capable to design good looking ship but they felt it was necessary to make ship designs like the Fleet Escort, the Imperial (assault cruiser variant), and make the Excelsior the most fearsome federation Cruiser?

Sometimes i tend to think some devs just hate federation cruisers.

I'm a tactical officer and fly the new odyssey with a tactical fit and thanks to the cruisers survivability and the skills from being a tactical officer and the tactical slots on the ship itself I can do quite a lot of DPS and survive most elite STF encounters. Which is good as I love the ships appearance. I admit though when I was flying the Star Cruiser it didn't really fit my Tactical orientation too well, this new one though definitely does.
Cant wait for the +1 version.

Except you aren't doing anywhere NEAR the DPS you SHOULD be doing in an elite STF (as you would be in an escort), and because you are in an odyssey, your compatriots expect you to tank, and, I can't say this loudly enough, EXPECT YOU TO HAVE THREAT CONTROL. If you are trying to DPS in an Ody, you are doing it wrong. Go put together the Dragon Flagship build, and tank. Even as a tac officer, you will be MUCH more effective for your team than trying to DPS in an Ody.

Dude ... You need to get a life and let people play the game in the style that works for them.

If we all went around using cookie cuter builds for ships ... This game would suck big time.

!
Spreadsheets are for WoW Proraiders & Officemeetings. Some ppl just want to play a game in their freetime.

@Topic: I love the looks of the Ody, but maybe the +1 version gets a optional star cruiser skin?
