# 1 Escort Build Help
02-18-2012, 06:02 AM
Hi folks. Just reached level 20 yesterday, and got my new Escort ship. I felt so proud of my new Tynan-B. However with this new ship, I'm tossing around a few ideas for builds.

The Bank Build
Fore - 2 Bank, 1 Light
Aft - 2 Turret

The Launcher Build
Fore - 2 Bank, 1 Launcher
Aft - 2 Turret

The Rest Of The Ship
Deflector - Positron
Shields - Regenerative
Engineer - Alloy (+Energy, +Kinetic)
Science - Emitter
Tactical - 3x Phaser Relay

Tactical Skills By Build
Bank - Tactical Team x2, Overload 2 x2, Rapid 2.
Launcher - High Yield 1 x2, Overload 2 x2, Rapid 2.

Other Officer Skills
Engineering - Emergency Power To Shields x2
Science - Transfer Power To Shields x2
Captain - Rotate Shield Frequency

The Bank Build is basically turning the Banks into Torpedos. Since the Banks get boosted by the Relays, it should allow them to do some significant damage. And since I'm using all energy weapons, it should make for a very high output.

The Launcher Build is one I've been thinking about since people have been saying that you can only have 3 of a weapon type go off at the same time. This allows weapons to continual fire without having to worry about another weapon going off.

I'm using both types of Power To Shields due to the fact I run 100, 50, 25, 25 right now.

What I'm wondering is if there's any way to improve these concepts. And if you are wondering, I have an all cannon build that I was originally running on Tynan-A (2 Light, 1 Heavy, 1 Turret). Figured I'd try something different with Tynan-B, perhaps.

Cannons and turrets really is the standard Escort configuration. The beamscort is a little trickier, but it can work. Here's what i'd suggest:

Fore: 2x Phaser beam arrays (not dual beam banks) and a photon torpedo
Aft: 2x Phaser beam arrays

You'll want to broadside, but then once their shield is down pop HYT and turn to face them to use it.

Deflector realy doesn't matter, but switch your regenerative shield for a covariant or resilient, especially if you can snag one with a [Cap] modifier or a blue with [Cap][Dis]. Since you're going to be fighting Klinks and Romulans, you'll want your engineering console to be Diburnium alloy to reduce disruptor damage. Science console should be a Field Generator. Your phaser relays are fine.

As far as Boff abilities, you're best off dropping the Rapid Fire (since that only works on cannons and turrets, which this build does't have) for a Torp Spread or Fire At Will for clearing spam, like the plasma torpedo spam that D'deridex ships love to use.

Your other Boff skills are all shied heals. You really won't need them, so i'd suggest switching one EPTS for an Engineering team, and changing your sci abilities to Polarize Hull (for those Romulan tractor beams) and Hazard Emitters, a good hull heal that also raises defense.

Hope this helps!

Sorry I didn't reply right away. Was trying to get myself back off of night shift sleeping habits. Thanks for the reply(s)!

Hm, I didn't think a broadside version would work for an escort, since its not the point of the Escort. But I'll give this a shot. Seems like fun.

Thanks for the advise on alloy, I get right on that.

I'm curious about the deflector. Since an Escort is built to cause damage and little else, wouldn't it make more sense to have a Positron Deflector to increase the shields healing functions? By increasing the Emitter, you allow your regeneration to increase and also means small hits on your shields do nothing. Its kinda why I went with a Regenerative Shield. Its also why I was using an Emitter Array, to boost the regenerative abilities.

So go for more techniques that hit multiple parties? Hm... I'll need to build up my skills points again.

So the hull boosters raise your overall defense? I thought hull defense only worked for the hull, hence I went with the shield heals to boost my shield defense. Thanks for this info.

Looks like I need a lot of BoFF points now.

Cool. I'll definitely take a look at this. Seems like a fun escort to fly. Thank you.

I've tried it. I prefer a cannon build, but a beamscort can be fun if played correctly. You need to constantly be aware of your firing arcs, and take advantage of your maneuverability to get a HYT in exactly at the right moment. A beamscort also suffers less because of those damn tractor beams, since they won't be able to keep their ships out of your firing arc.

That's a common misconception. The Positron deflector increases the "starship emitters" ability, but not the shield emitters. Though, if you can find a Positron with the [HS] modifier, that will be a significant boost to your Hazard Emitters boff skill.

You don't need to have too many AOE techniques, but having at least one helps with the Romulans. Plasma Torpedos and Scorpion fighters become a lot less annoying with them.

Yes, Hazard Emitters raises your overall defense. HE1 raises it by 13% minimum, more if you are specced into it, for 15 seconds. It also heals the hull and clears those nasty Plasma Torpedo procs (and later on, clears the Borg Shield Neutralizer).
