Had this idea during a discussion on another board.

We all know the Sovereign is overdue for a refit.

Besides being in need of a visual overhaul to make it look more like what appeared on screen and a venturefied version as an alternate skin, it needs a special ability:

The First Contact signature 4x torpedo volley.

You can't do that atm because you lack a LC tac station.

So my suggestion would be to give the +1 a Quad Quantum launcher that would fire either standard quantum torpedos or a special quad salvo.

The salvo should not be the same as the High Yield version.

I imagine it to have a slightly longer cooldown than HY3 and a lower overall damage per torp. Additionally i'd like it to have a chance for a DoT proc.

Should probably not be compatible with standard BO HY and Torpedo Spread to not make it overpowered but should at least share a global cooldown with them.

Don't take me apart for missing any obvious obstacles in gameplay mechanics and balance issues.

This is a first draft idea and am sure can be tweaked to give the refit an interesting unique ability without pulling a lolconsole out of somebody's behind.

Thoughts?

Although I would love to see a +1 Sovy, It's your torpedo idea I'd like to comment on.

This is just my personal opinion, but I don't think that there should be ANY unique weapons on T4.5 or higher C-Store ships. They're alright for leveling lower tiers, but unless they're overpowered they'll usually need to be replaced almost immediately upon hitting VA to stay competitive.

It's like the quad phaser cannons, they're fun to have but I honestly don't know a single person that uses them at VA because MKXII dual heavies work better.

That's just my opinion.

A +1 Sovy on the other hand, I'd give my first unborn child for Personally, I think all the refit really needs is for the ensign Tac station to be bumped up to LT Tac station. Maybe some minor bonuses to shield, hull or some other stat... but it's so good right now I don't even think it's really necessary.

Well, if we get a +1, we all know it will be with that bit of extra ability. Most likely console. And if we do, i'd like it to be at least related to what we know the Sovereign can do. It's either a quad volley torp, scooping up stellar gas and blow it up in your enemies face or Fire at Will sweep to find cloaked ships.
I would prefer the torp. However you flavor it is a matter of debate, just make it not overpowered but unique.

Just a nitpick about the name; it should be a 'Rapid-Fire Quantum Launcher' or replace Rapid-Fire with Burst-Fire.
"Quad Quantum Launcher" sound so wrong.

I agree It is time for the sovereign to receive some attention inside and out. We got the defiant refute with new better interior and the quad cannons. We have refute of the galaxy and the excelsior class ships. When is the sovereign class that so many players use going to get the attention it needs? It needs a bridge and hull that looks like we last saw it in Nemesis. I think the special abilities would be great. I think it should be able to rapid fire both photons and quantums. I also really like the idea of the full phaser spread seen in Nemesis. It has been said over and over again this is a ship that was built to fight the Borg just like the defiant it is just a cruiser instead of an escort. It is suppose to be a battleship. Other than the odyssey (because it is new) it should be the all around most powerful ship. LaForge stated in First Contact that the Enterprise E was the most advanced starship in the fleet. Granted in STO that was a long time ago, but if the ship has been refitted over the years it should be much more advanced by now. It is not really where it should in comparison with the movie interior, exterior, or power.

Bottom line... It is a battleship. It should be able to take a lot of hard licks and kick a lot of major butt.

Other than the looks which need a lot of improvements to make it look like the nemesis E or which I personally think the +1 sovy should look like is this http://johneaves.files.wordpress.com...al-e-small.jpg , other than a little bit improvement on hull, shield and maybe turn rate and power levels, just give it the rapid fire quantum torpedo launcher which it should have and or the FAW ability which it had in nemesis, hopefully it won't take up a console slot as well. There is really not alot to improve of the sovy other than her looks. She is still a great ship.

It's something that just kinda took on a life of it's own. Because the E was so much more of a "military" ship than the D was most people just assumed that the Borg were the reason for it.

Given the history with the Ent-E and the Borg, I would think they had massive opportunity to understand how and where and why this particular ship design was vulnerable to the borg technology (in great detail) as they removed it bit by bit.

I would want a +1 to have a special console that self-cleans all borg BOFF skills over time, perhaps amplified by current AUX power level setting (higher aux power = faster cleanse). On default settings it would cleanse your ship of borg radiation/shield-suckers/boff skills in 10 seconds.

This would be only usable on this ship, as what it does is specific to the very layout of this ship alone, its power conduits, its physical infrastructure, and its power grid, etc... It wouldn't work on a Galaxy, for example.
