I only consider myself a middling good escort pilot, so keep that in mind. The Garumba is the first true escort I've flown after some time in BoPs. Basically I re-read Husanak's thread before I start flying most nights.

Against another escort with any kind of chops you won't be using siege mode. Against most cruisers it's no problem. If you throw it in reverse and evasive/APO/whatever you can whip around just fine, even on other escorts if they don't realize they just need to wait out your movement buff, and you can put something on your aft like a chroniton to slow them down. I would use tractor mines if they weren't lamesauce.

I gotta tell you though, the javelin is satisfying. If you pop an escort you can go into siege mode on his buddies, pop them and have the javelin charged. The escort respawns, comes back in, and gets a nice "Welcome back!" javelin.

EP2S and TT chained can keep you going just fine since you lose a lot of the defense bonus in siege mode. I mean, you don't want to overshoot since the turn rate is atrocious so you spend more time at lower speeds, and you're taking a -10 to engine power. The problem then is a sub-nuc hurts way more since you're not in escort mode where you can stomp on the gas pedal and scoot out of there, retaining your speed bonus in the process.

I saw a funky Garumba once that I think was a DBB FAW build. They basically pulled up on the edge of the furball and parked. FAW + Tet Gider + Siege Mode drain + Plasmonic Leach could be useful, IDK. That's pretty different from escort flying and seemed purpose made for siege mode.

Well, server's still down, I'm gonna go re-read that escort thread.

The Guramba (minus Seige mode) is the exact same as a Fleet Escort. This is the reason I even initially bought it. (I really dislike most KDF console/Boff layouts) I don't even bother with Seige Mode now as i'm running MK XII AP's, but will use it again when I get some XII Disruptors. Landing the final blow with the javellin never gets old. Just remember that it handles like an assault Cruiser while in Seige.

It's nice to be able to fit the leech and theta, but having to make a choice, IF you want either, get the leech and train six ranks of FloC. I absolutely love my Guramba. While not sharing my build, I'll offer to give pointers. Drop by Karrat sometime and look for Lady Fek'Ihr, I'm around usually primetime for East Coast U.S.

Another Gumba pilot maybe. This is how I look at the Gumba. You have 2 forms: escort and siege mode. Escort you will have good turn rate and do good damage bad thing about it you can't use Javelin or drain weapons power from your opponent. As for siege mode you do good damage, you drain weapons power from opponent plus you get to fire Javelin only downside bad turn rate. My solution to the turn rate problem is using the turn rate consoles. I personally use the +35 turn rate console x1. Note that I'm looking at the Gumba as it is without the cstore consoles.

the more i play this ship.....it really is a love hate relationship im building with it.

there is a niche there, and a solid one. and that javelin...whew. nice spike. i feel i may want a target engines on it. i dont want to lose a sci heal by running a tractor tho.

i love the feel when its in regular mode....but my timing in seige mode will require more practice i think....just...better timing.

either way, its like no other ship in the game. and i will continue to weigh its pros and cons to see if its the end fit for my kling tac over the bop, which i believe, is the most challenging and rewarding ship to fly in the game.

I also forgot to say that I just plain love that it's a freaking Transformer. I think that's one of the coolest animations in the game.

Managing the weapons offline time during the transformation adds a level of complexity to the ship, especially since after you fire the javelin you shift out of siege mode automatically. Landing a hit or getting a kill with the javelin feels a little like showboating, and I can't see anything wrong with that.

I died while firing my javelin halfway through the animation to a decloaking Gal-X phaser lance two nights ago. That was a fun and memorable death I did not mind taking. Risk/reward, right?

I got the ship... holy hell, I need to change my pants!

Can't wait until the Jem bug is fixed and I can try it in PvP...
