I finally saved up enough C-store credits and bought a Tactical escort retrofit the other day. First thing I did was throw that cloaking device in the bank, where it will forever gather virtual dust, because I've never found a reason to use it yet (I don't PVP.)

I'm not sure if there are any actual tactical bonuses over having a fleet escort though. Both give the same weapon bonuses, but the fleet has a larger crew compliment which makes repairing my hull go comparably faster.

I don't have enough BOFF slots to assign a 3rd tactical officer to fill the ensign tactical console. I'm not sure how much that's gonna help though.. maybe I'll get the skill that redistributes my shields accordingly. Already have spread cannon and spread torpedo skills. Don't need anything relating to beam weapons.

Anyway, my biggest problem I'm finding so far is the retrofit is *TOO FAST*, by which I mean it's hard for me to keep the correct angle for my DHCs to fire. It twists and turns so fast that I"m losing out on DPS by not being able to compensate fast enough. I'm thinking of going back to my Fleet escort if there's no real difference in DPS output between the two.

the defiant is one of the more popular ships by IP that's why there's a +1 variant. the speed + cloak work well for PvP but really is all you do is STF's there was no reason to get it over the tier 5 escort.

So they both put out the same DPS with the same weapon setup? (Mk12 AP: 3 DHC 1 quant 3 turrets)

Ahh well, It didn't cost me anything to buy.. just converting a lot of dilithium. No big deal.

Advantages of the Tactical Escort Retrofit:
1) it cloaks (nice for alpha strikes and PvP)
2) it has 3 tactical boff slots (not useful for my ship build)
3) it has a better turn rate (more useful for my play style)

Advantages of the Fleet Escort:
1) it has 2 engineering boff slots (I find this more useful for my ship build)

3 Tactical BOFF slots is not really an advantage.

OK I run:

Tac Team, High Yield, Rapid Fire, Omega
Torp Spread, Scatter Volley, Beta
Tac Team

Buying a ship with 3 tac stations and than deciding not to bother using the ensign tac station doesn't make sense. Why did you buy the ship with the cloaking device only to than not use it? Coming out of cloak you get a 15 second 15% increase to DPS. Nothing should live longer than 15s if you do it right.

You have to be the only person I've ever seen complaining about a ship turning too well, that's not criticism just your the first.

I appreciate that this ship is just simply not for you, but asking what the advantage is when you disqualify the turn rate, the cloaking device and the extra ensign Tac slot makes the answer nothing.

When in reality the answer is the turn rate, the cloaking device and the extra tac ensign slot.

What's the difference between the Advanced Escort and the Fleet Escort. I'm not going to use the ensign slot on either of them and I'm only going to run 2 Engineering and 2 Science Consoles and the Assimilated Console. See I've made the question so that the only answer is that there is not a difference.

A word of advice, do a bit of research on the next ship you intend to buy, because it seems that you jumped in without looking and got something completely incompatible with your playstyle. And judging by the amount of em I see in Elite STF they are very popular.

Apologies if this comes off like a you idiot noob rant, it's not meant to.

bang on, you can't ask for the advantages, when the 1st thing you do is remove them all. I think this is actually a troll post

It can be, depending on what your weapon build is. It's not useful for me, but it can be for someone else that uses beams or torps.
