Universe-wise, I see no reason not to implement a carrier ship. I'm just a little concerned about how it would function gameplay-wise.

The fun of controlling a ship (whether it's a light escort or a star cruiser) is flying into combat yourself and being in total control of your attacks and defences.

With a carrier, the fighters would be doing most of the work (the payoff would be that the carrier is too large/slow to be the active role in the fight) - you'd be reduced to hanging back and issuing orders to the fighters, while using your guns to pick off other threats.

Which is great if a complete "fighter direction/management system" comes along with the carrier ship (giving carrier gameplay the strategy element it needs), but otherwise, it's just a case of "Launch Fighters" and wait.

^Lame answer. If all the other races can have one I see no apparent reason why the Federation cant have one. This is just Cryptics way of forcing people to check out other races than the Federation. Give us the ability Cryptic!

Uh, what "other races" are there besides KDF? And the way KDF is underdeveloped, I would think Cryptic should try to keep people AWAY from it...at least until it's on-par with the Feds.

As far as the price on it 1600 cp yeah I would be happy if it were so cheap as I could have seen it going for much more.
I pitched the idea of the Tactical Carrier, if the Orions have Cruisers that launch Fighters, and the Akira had 40 fighters onboard surely an Escort with a Fighter bay would be a good move for the Game let alone the Federation. It would be a unique ship and not a copy of something that already exhists in game. And it could probaly sell not only a T5 Akira but the Thunderchild skin too.

I'm not so much against the idea of a Fed Carrier, I'm more against the idea of a copy of the Klingon Carriers which are Sci or Eng style ships.

The Akira would be nice I have to admit, but I still have this twisted image in my head of an aircraft carrier in space ever since I think one of the Devs posted it lol

*Maybe something like thisI know its from another game but who hasnt done this before in this long drawn out struggle

And of course for the Akria lovers it has to be in there

Of course there is always this one that should remind people that StarTrek was ship poor. In other words they had more ship classes than they knew what to do with

The Federation doesn't need to contribute to the cluttering up of players screens like the mines, Acewton Generators, Scorpions, KDF fighters already do

Devs said they won't give Carriers to the Feds. The only good decisions they made ever.

The Devs have never said this. But if you rush off to find a quote of the devs saying the promise-free "We have no intention of adding a Fed-Carrier at this time." from a year ago, I can point out what that did, and did not, mean a year ago. Thus, with a better understanding of the situation, you can avoid giving wrong information in the future.

To the OP; no time soon, if ever. One of the developers talked about working on a Caitian Carrier as something he'd like to do, but if I recall that's the same developer who just left the company. If I had to guess, I'd say within 18 months, but that's just a guess.

Why can't they just add the Scorpion, Pereagrine, and To'Du to the D-Store. there Feds get that 'Carrier feel' without taking away form the klingons and it makes some money for Cryptic so hopefully someone from above would see this

Why do you think there are so many redundant commanders and Admirals?
