I bought the Dreadnought from the c-store because its many reasons: the ability to equip dual heavy cannons, its cloak and the spinal lance but when i have used the spinal lance it hasn't dealt damage to the enemies shields or hull. I even tried it when the enemy had no shields and didn't take a single % off their hull. I have only used it in STFs but it should still work in STFs shouldn't it?
To think I spent 25$ on a single ships that's so underwhelming.
2 Minutes cooldown... not affected by power/abilities despite being a phaser weapons. Utterly forgettable.
In the series, the weapon was awesome. In the game it's "huh? Why exactly did I get this thing?"
A single torpedo has a higher DPS!
And what's with a 45° fire arc? That's way too much. It's a spinal weapon, it should have a 10° fire arc IMHO.
Now before you say "they can't make it too powerful, that would be pay-per-win", let me say - I don't care.
I don't care if the weapons has a separate set of stats for PVP or whatever. I just want my moneys worth and for the ship and weapons to feel right.
Meh, My advice to any new players reading this thread, DO NOT BUY the Gal-X. I bought one over a year ago, & I use one to moderately good effect in PVP, but that's more due to the BOFF layout ( the same as my beloved Neggy), than the Spinalol Lance.
Ok here is the skinny about it. The fact that the ship is equiped with a PHSAER lance, should be a clue. Run phaser set out for weapons pair it up with the phaser tac consoles and a plasma distrubtion console. Vola better damage from the lance. Dont fall into the trap oh it can equip cannons. It is a cruser fly it like a cruser. It does not have the turn rate to use cannons to full effect. You'll do better damage in the long run by equiping phaser beams and running an orbital borad side atack. Set up your tac with the beam abilitys and you should be good to go.
I run single cannons on my Gal-X (and incidentally my Bortasqu') They have a large enough firing arc to use them with turrets in the rear and be plenty effective. Beams work too, but you lose some oomph in your alpha strike, which with a Gal-X you should be using and abusing as often as possible. If your running anything other then phaser your doing it wrong.
You have a ton of eng slots, so run DEMx2 for extra oomph. Try to time using it with your other cooldowns. Gal-X is all about bursting. An escort will beat you in a DPS race every time, but you can blast out a ton of damage quickly, and then settle in to tanking. If you try to fly it like an escort you will be disappointed. It's a cruiser with some tricks up it's sleeve. Play it like that and she is a fine ship.
If/when they give the Gal-X saucer sep, then dual cannons will make a lot of sense for it. Till then, its just not worth it. You lose more damage then you gain due to lack of uptime on the target. Just hold on and wait like the rest of us.
