But what would the actual buff be? Decrease cooldown? Increase duration? Buff the DPS even more? Hmm... maybe reduce the power drain per beam fired? Actually, that last one sounds awesome.
30/40/50% chance to fire at a third target per round instead of two?
Very useful for large numbers of targets, doesn't increase single-target damage at all which would be the case with energy drain, duration, bonus power/damage, or reduced cooldown.... not that I'd mind better single-target damage either.
Maybe I'm just not paying enough attention, but it seemed that when firing each cycle it would hit the selected target + 1 other random target nearby. My suggestion would give it a chance to hit an additional target per cycle.
If it's just truely random at a faster rate, then I guess it's non-sensical and we're just talking about increasing the firing rate further.
