Anyone here play the old interplay Starfleet command series? I'd like to see upgraded versions of the ships in the game. If we can have the consitution refit, and Excelsior, we should be seeing these. I did enjoy the DD class, as well as the Federation Dread, (Not the BB, though thats cool too) The klingon ships were also pretty cool.
As much as I enjoy this game and no offense to the team behind STO, but I really dont like any of these new in game classes, and i think they're a poor extrapolation of the cannon Starfleet ships. Interplay did a much better job with that. They all looked very Cannon.
Amarillo Design Bureau, Inc makes Star Fleet Battles under an independant liscense that was used by Taldren / Quicksilver to produce Starfleet Command for Interplay. Cryptic / CBS doesn't have the rights to those ships. It's strictly limited to the original series stuff too. I think the designers here stated they were loosely inspired by SFB and SFC in their ship combat system.
Personally, i think those ships fit the cannon better than the star cruiser. (Really, a mon cal cruiser mated with a constituion class and thats the resultant ugly love child) Perhaps I just like TOS ships better.
And yeah the space combat really reminds me of SFC, which is probably why i love it so much. I just wish they would add more to the damage control aspect like that game had.
I've always felt that the NX and TOS era ships were really pushing it - sort of like flying museums compared to more contemporary designs (by late 24 to early 25th Century, of course)
FYI:
canon = an aspect of a storyline that is considered "official"

I'm not sure what you mean about tos ships? You mean having them in the game? Well, yeah. I can see your point with that. But so many other things are hazy with the canon they probably figured why the hell not. Plus, a lot of fans would go nuts if they couldnt get their hands on a tos ship
