This breaks down into two parts. One of each of the ships.

Both of these need to be able to take on PVE enemies on Elite settings. Note: I don't do STF's.Both these builds are from scratch, I've got enough Respecs if needed, several million EC and a large stack of Dil.

Varanus:
I have a Gorn tactical officer, so Obviously he flies a Gorn ship. However Last night we took it for a run into Azelsea expanse on elite with a couple of friends. I was dying far to frequently. I had a fully pimped out Jem hadar set with Polaron beams, and a Har'Peng. Power was run at 50 for all systems, but with bonus's (I have a full set of efficient Letheans) and the Plasmodic leach this was actually closer to 100.

Ideas please, on making it allot more survivable?

Guramba:
I'm going to start a new Character, so Nausicaan is the obvious choice. At First I was thinking Science, and I actually started on the science captain, but now I'm thinking engineer (It goes with the ship). Now I experimented with her last night on the Above Gorn tactical, and it seemed very squishy in siege mode, and I wasn't sure how the Power drain was working (seeing as I had a plasmodic leach on board).

So thoughts for the Eng flying the Guramba please?

Thanks.

Varanus, sorry not very Sci skilled yet.

Garumba

The power drain has no effect on your power levels.

You'll notice in Siege mode two green bars on the ship powering up as you shoot, when they get to full you can use the Javelin, I don't really know what the power drain is like to the other side but.

I find this ship to be able to take for more punishment than the raptor (although partly due to the way it's built. With far more resist than my other ships a Mk12 KHG Shield and the Borg set. Not to mention the EPtS1 rotation.

Siege mode doesn't really add that much to survivability in my experience. I do love flying it but.

Good luck, been waiting on help with my Varanus for over a week. I guess KDF players are not as helpful as I was led to believe.

The Varnaus thing does seem to be a bit of a sticky problem.

The alternative is we just don't fly the ships. I find this faction to be far more helpful than the Federation.

An ENG in a Guramba seems like overkill defensively, seems more suited to a Tac. It's already the sturdiest escort, I'd personally think an ENG would be best in a Raptor where that extra survivability would make it more durable. My Fed ENG flies a refit tac escort and that combination works well at covering weaknesses.

Although if all your doing is elite PVE, it doesn't really matter. Anything will work.

You become more survivable by killing your enemies faster, and Polaron Beams with the Jem Hadar set is really not the way to achieve it.

The har'peng is also a waste on any Escort type ship, much less the bugship, and beams are really not helping you at all. They are designed for broadsides and low turn rates, and this ship has one of the best turnrates in the game outside of playing a BoP (or a shuttle, I suppose).

Running 50 power to all systems is a mistake, again you survive by killing things and moving fast. Your Weapons should be set to whatever it takes to hit 125, for PvE your engines should at least hit 50 and the rest goes into Shields. Set Aux to 25 max, and have a second separate setting to switch to Aux heavy for when you need it.

Switch to DHCs & Quantum or Photon Torps up front, and 3x Turrets in the rear.

You can stick with polaron if you really like, but ultimately the Jem'hadar set is not that great IMO.

2 Neutronium, Borg Console, Plasmonic Leech
Field Generator
4x energy weapon damage type (polaron, in your case)

Comm Tac: TT1 > TS or HYT 2 > CSV or CRF 2 > APO 3
Lt Comm Tac: TT1 > TS or HYT 2 > CSV or CRF 2
Uni Lt: (Eng) EPTS 1 > RSP 1 or Aux to SIF 1
Uni Lt: (Sci - Standard) TSS 1 > HE 2
OUni Lt: (Sci - Alternate) ST 1 > HE 2 [Swap to this BOFF for facing enemies with subnuc, such as the Breen in Chel Grett Cruisers)
Ens Eng: EPTS 1

Build the Guramaba the same as above, use Disruptors (of course).

Eng in Guramba should see you all but unkillable in PvE.

I posted just a minute ago with this build
http://forums.startrekonline.com/sho...d.php?t=263953

It's my varanus work in progress build. Requires all the science ship consoles but I find it's incredibly fun.
