# 1 Some Kar'fi carrier advice?
04-04-2012, 10:46 AM
I have been playing the Orion marauder on my KDF engineer for ages, I was thinking of switching over to the Kar'fi carrier for another hanger bay and more of an offensive focus..

Are they viable for STFs, etc? Would I get more DPS than the Orion ship?

If so, what might be a good build for an Engineer in a Kar'fi?

I tried searching the forums but got a bunch of unrelated posts, so any advice would be greatly appreciated..

In an elite stf, the karfi carrier is the best ship in the game.
One of the problems elite stf's have is people showing up in brick walls with no dps.
The karfi can provide that dps plus tank better than others.
"tank?" yes. Example: Agro the elite tac cube and send in your pets and get beyond te 10k mark.
You have saved the day.

Forget the bortasq. Get the karfi.

Good for an eng? No. Great for sci. But still at this point beat ship for the kdf.

Good for pvp? No. Even mentioning it you are already dead. The respawning timer hasn't appeared yet.

It is also an amazing ship no matter what type of captain flies it. Granted, a science officer would definitely be scary in it. I currently have a Tactical captain in it. Kar'FI is great for STFs especially if you use some sort of power drain setup. There is the downside in PVP that you tend to get primaired alot like Staran said. Though, I actually found I'm not as squishy as some people make it out to be... but maybe I"m just fighting weak people... anyway.

Here is a link to a thread on these forums with some great Kar'Fi builds: http://forums.startrekonline.com/sho...d.php?t=255262

I currently use a hybrid DPS/Siphon build based on those builds, which I could share if you would like.

It's good that this thread came up, I was going to make a post more along these lines. I'll take a look at the thread you linked, Yami2, looks like some good info in there.

As far as PVP goes, my thoughts are that any KDF ship without a cloak has the problem of your allies sometimes literally vanishing around you, and you can't sneak like they do. Though if you have some sort of coordinated team, you can act as effective bait if your tank is good enough. And as an engineer, your tank should be good enough.

you can cloak this ship.
1) Honor Guard Set and
2) The Phase Cloak.

It sort of makes it like an enhanced battle cloak but using two abilities to make it so.

Thank you so much for all the advice guys, I bought the ship last night for my KDF engineer and went with a power drain build... I AM LOVING IT!!! So much more versatile than the Orion Marauder was..

I am actually finding myself gravitating to KDF play much more often lately..

I agree that sci is the more powerful choice for a Kar'fi. I completely disagree that it's bad for PvP. It has a steep learning curve due to the lack of engineering slots, true. After having great difficulty keeping it alive with a sci captiain I rolled an engineer and flew it for a while. Over time I found myself touching Miracle Worker less and less, and I went back to my sci. One console to invest in for a sci in a Kar'fi is the subspace jump console because it's so important to put your nose on somebody for a sub-nuc. Basically, without that it's a much lower level of danger for your enemies because nothing is scarier than a perfectly timed sub-nuc.

As far as STFs, don't bother kiting cubes, just shut them down with a drain build. I can't agree with the "Send the pets and sit outside 10k" advice. In the dps race that is an STF, why would you stop shooting?

There was a stealth buff to the Kar'Fi recently too... the Vo'Quv used to be a "carrier" and the Kar'Fi used to be a "Battle Carrier"... now they are both "carriers"... and carriers can use Heavy Cannons...

Kar'Fi wasn't able to use DHCs, etc in the past, but now it is.

right now i only take my carriers into elites with fleet only groups. In normal stf i love duoing 1 side of KA while killing probes faster than the 3 people on the other side. As for pvp its not bad when you siphon off their energy while your partner kills them. Just have to do more than click your space bar over and over to be good at it.

i wish the galaxy X was a little bit more like the Kar'fi. For sci captains it must be the best choice appart from escorts...maybe better than escorts.

i fly it with 2 plasma launchers and bio neural warhead (back) 2 fighters and 2 DHC in front. it's much more agile than galaxy x therefore u can really bring those cannons in place...especially in stf's

if you have aggro...tank it. no big deal with drain abilities. and keep those dhc on target.

For PVP you really need some serious skill!
