The solution is simple, buy a Sci Oddy, a Prome or the new Caitian Carrier.

In any case, what do you guys think of the Viral Matrix? I know is crap, but...
VM works as advertised, as far as I can tell. Even then, its advertised use is completely unpredictable. You have no idea in what order that subsystems will go offline, which system is offline at any moment or how to best exploit the state you've imposed on your enemy.

From the perspective of someone who flies an eng/sci:

GW: Works on petSPAM, I guess. Wouldn't use it otherwise.

CPB: Can uh, decloak people? Certainly can't strip shields anymore. It's maybe 25% more effective than last patch but 25% of a near zero number is still... near zero.

PSW: Still useful to knock. Intermittently useful for spike hull damage but without shield stripping to guarantee open hull, a lot less useful. No Subspace decomp on my ship so I don't even bother with using it as a stun.

Tykens: Minor annoyance, do people even notice the drain?

TBR: Impressive damage (ESPECIALLY in a tac/sci) but situationally effective. You need a team willing to watch you play pong with the enemies. Decent spam clearance but erratic. Kinda like FAW, may not immediately hit your target of choice Unlike FAW though you can single out who you're after by chasing.

Viral Matrix: By itself, not too effective but one of the premiere "super annoying" skills. Most people don't have the counter-skill slotted (especially escorts) so it can be used as an easy way to make peoples' lives more difficult.

I used to run the classic CPB/PSW combo (2/3 respectively) until Power insulators rendered CPB worthless. I still run PSW3, alternating it with TBR3 and seasoning to taste. for LCDR slot, Viral Matrix, combined with beam-target subsystem and a lot of phasers means I basically run an annoyance build. Tractor them, beam target engines/aux, viral matrix,

After the latest patch, my sci/sci still feels underwhelming and ineffective in a team pvp environment. Shockwave's stun duration was reduced by far too much, it now has no practical use as a stun against a properly specced opponent. CPB is still worthless as a shield stripping ability, as is Tachyon Beam. Gravity Well & Tyken's Rift make very pretty spatial anomalies, but that's about it.

In a premade pvp team, there is no place for my sci/sci anymore; a science captain in an Odyssey with Chevron separation is tougher to kill, has more healing & damage ability, and loses access to no worthwhile science powers, because there are no truly worthwhile high-level science powers anymore....

Mark me down as a very sad panda science captain.

I agree with the topic. Most of the sci powers got nerfed and now they are useless. Only TBR 3 seems to work preety well so I use it to separate healers from escorts or push escorts away from their victims etc. It's little sad that STO now become fest of cruisers / carriers.

I'm confused really.. I've been playing on a Carrier with CBP 3 and I have seen it do good shield damage. Sure it's not instantly stripping all people's shields, but it does enough shield damage to be noticable.

I went against a guy yesterday who was using 2x Tachyon Beam 3 and CPB 3 on my constantly (pug v pug). I pretty much shrugged him off the whole time. Any time I noticed my shields getting below 50%, I'd just pop at TSS or use my BFI Doffs to refill myself and I didn't have to worry about him at all.

Vs a Shield Heal I've noticed that it doesn't work well. But against an unprotected target it seems to work well..

Yeah, 1 SciTeam 3 completely negates your fully Aux, gear, and spec boosted CPB 3 :p

And it's only on a 15 second CD (with appropriate DOffs)

I don't remember many people using Science Team 3 before, though. Healing CPB away was always easy - if it was just that one CPB and not a couple of other ships also hammering you and you running out of heals but the enemy not out of weapons. I think I only saw BoPs entirely losing their shields from CPBs, then being stunned, and then Tricobalted to death. (On a good day.)
