hi sorry for the delay was out for lunch.

Ok this is what I did:

0.1) uninstalled STO (this was my Closed beta version / open beta version)

0.2) installed torrent STO from offical download site on www.startrekonline.com

0.3) ran antivirus (nothing found)

0.4) checked Internet explore was not working offline even though I don't use this stupid prog.

0.5) ran spybot (only a few common things found)

0.7) ran advance system care (only a defragg needed)

0.9) check firewall setting for STO (no problems there)

1) Followed post re network adapter speed change. (my computer / properties / Hardware / device manager / clicked on Network adapter / properties / Advanced / (look for speed/duplex settings) changed the value from Auto Negotiation to 10mb full duplex / click ok)

2) Changed same then back into network adapter and change it back to auto negotiation.

3) Tried STO patcher still broke

4) Back into device manager and rolled back the driver for Network adapter and GFX Nvidia 8800 GTS (in my case)

5) Went to Mircosoft website and installed security updates (got this from my rescent downloads from Mircosoft site 21-02-10)

a) Security Update for Windows XP (KB978706)
b) Security Update for Windows XP (KB971468)
c) Security Update for Windows XP (KB977914)
d) Cumulative Security Update for ActiveX Killbits for Windows XP (KB978262)
e) Security Update for Windows XP (KB975560)
f) Security Update for Windows XP (KB978251)
g) Security Update for Windows XP (KB977165)
h) Security Update for Windows XP (KB978037)
I) Security Update for Windows XP (KB975713)
j) nVidia - Display - NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS
k) Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 8 for Windows XP (KB978207)
l) Security Update for Windows XP (KB972270)
m) nVidia - Network - NVIDIA Network Bus Enumerator

6) after install rebooted and then once back in windows check and make sure the windows firewall was disabled.

7) launched STO and it started patching

8) game worked.

Hope this helps anyone with the same problem it is highly annoying, the only thing that changed from thursday to friday when it wouldn't work was installing new GFX drivers and I can only think that's what could have caused this or some sort of virus on a node somewhere.

FreejackeR -out.

Just wanted to add my 2 cents to the issue. I was having the same problem as Freejacker; manually restricting the incoming data to my modem wasn't doing anything. Then I followed his post and installed the following updates:

nVidia - Display - NVIDIA GeForce 7600
nVidia - Network - NVIDIA Network Bus Enumerator

When I rebooted my computer, the game patches and plays normally. Can't imagine what the problem was, but somehow this did the trick.

That right there... that's garbage. If you have a Marvell NIC on your motherboard too (680i & some 780i) move your connection to it and uninstall the craptastic nVidia Network drivers and turn that crap device off in the BIOS.

I just switched off my NVIDIA NIC to my Realtek onboard and suddenly my patching works again.

nVidia RTL8169/8110 family onboard NIC is what failed me.

How did you switch it off?
