none taken, personally i think thats the only valid way to fly a sci vessel as you posted it. I just wanted to inform the other guy that he is better off with a different ship. And mostly not to take a second sci vessel.
I suggested to him to buy an escort, because i do very, very well with my sci in an escort. It's easy and beginner friendly.
PS: personally i think you would be better off with a dual beam bank in front...the turnrate of the intrepid is sufficent to bring those on target. atleast for stf's.
there is always the nebula. There is actually a really good build for it floating around in the forums and I've seen how it handles itself in a STF from time to time. If hes dead set on a sci ship i would advised the Nebula or The Kitty carrier.
I am running that build right now and am deeply, shamelessly in nerd love with it.
the nebula is actually a good idea, never crossed my mind. But it's a very good ship. Nice Boff layout.
Good alternative to the oddy sci ship. Nebula is much more agile.
I'm gonna give it a try myself! THX
My science actually uses the intrepid retrofit and I love it to death. It's a very nice and refreshing change of pace from the tact's escort or cruiser pew pew. I speced all of my abilities into things like gravity well and repulsion and play stfs as a mob controller, pretty much neglecting damage power unless it's coming from torps or general science abilities. I also play a semi-healer as well.
My first character is a Tac and i am getting bored by the escorts, thats the reason why i created a Sci and i dont want to fly an escort with him too. Is there a good ship in the c-store for my sci?
Playing as a tactical... Ditched escorts when I could grab a sovereign. Ever since I've been rocking a cruiser. All about the tachyon arrays and quantum torpedoes.

Good call. The Neb is one of those undersung but really amazing ships. The design is kind of two punch, but's great to see someone build something amazing starting from such a disadvantage. I have ridiculous fun with that build, which stupidly I use with a Sci officer, so I'm gimped from the getgo, but still have a blast.
You see, I'm a Tac captain. That means a damage dealing character in a technowizardry ship that tanks and heals well (screw MMO trinity!). It is something very delightful with that adorable pancake flying around and BFAWing the whole pack of mobs, and not dying.
Been flying the Intrepid for over a year and have tried several other ships...none can compare in my opinion. Even had a KDF captain who tried to take me out at Kerrat comment that he couldn't believe that he lost in 6 secs to a sci toon in a sci vessel. I'd recommend it to anyone but the Atrox, Nebula, & T'kyr all are great c-store sci vessels.

Oh, of course the Nebula, how could I forget that? Thank you.

The truth of the matter is, is that the Sci Oddy is a cruiser, not a sci ship. I mean it could make a decent sci ship with the 2 uni boff slots and the 5 sci console slots, but It will never match the performance of a true Sci ship either in sci abilities, or in turn rate or DPS quite frankly. To me the Oddy is best for tanks who who want a little variety to what they can do while tank/healing their teammates.
I recommend the Nebula. It's the same price as the LRSV Retro, and it has a much more useful ability.
