Which is kind of what we get in the exploration sectors...
As I recall, in "The Corbomite Manuever", it opens with the bridge crew being pretty bored mapping star systems... so this is pretty accurate. It's probably a good thing it doesn't take us hours to go from Vulcan to Earth in sector space.
