I have been playing this game off Steam for weeks now, no issues. I was playing this evening, no issues, until around an hour ago when I was entering Deep Space Nine for the first time, a bunch of files had to patch.
So, as I usually do, I opened my Steam in-game browser to do some browsing. A few seconds later my computer froze.
Zero response from any waiting, moving the mouse, pressing Esc, Ctrl+Alt+Del, wailing, gnashing of teeth or violently hitting the keys etc.
Eventually pressed the restart button.
Now, when I try to log on in the exact same way as normal, the launcher reaches the patching window and then crashes, displaying a Cryptic Error screen, offering to submit an error report.
I have done a bit of research and seen that people have had issues with TeamViewer, but I don't have that, I don't even know what it is.
Does anyone have any idea what might have happened and how I can fix it?
For anybody who cares, I
- uninstalled the game through Steam
- deleted all associated files
- set up to play
- it did a few ~3GB patches
- same error
Next day I tried again
- did a ~70MB patch
- works absolutely fine now
No idea at all what the problem was but there you go.
