do people spam fighters in ESD and crash peoples connections? no.
No, they spam it in PvP and can crash people's connection or lag it. Is that not a valid concern as well? Does only ESD count when it comes to such issues?
I think some folks, specifically the ones that don't like the whips being used in the manners described as harassment, don't understand the difference between griefing and harassment.
First off, your toon is not harmed by the whip being used on DS9. Yet, that doesn't prevent some from complaining. I have to agree with the person who said "Suck it up". Here is why. If you are being offended by how someone else is playing you have the option to ignore the other person. You do not have a right however to not be offended. No where is there any rule or regulation that states you have the right to not be offended. If someone is using the whip you can still partake in the service or you can log out and wait for and undetermined amount of time till that person is no longer there. That is your choice and your resolution.
While I may not agree with the person cracking his little whip in DS9, I refuse to tell that other person how to play his toon. It is harming no one and while it may not be a hallmark of a "Starfleet Officer" the fact remains that no one is a StarFleet Officer in real life and so we don't have the right to judge in the first place.
You have the right, that if it bothers you so much, to stop playing the game. However, if you do not wish to stop playing the game then you must accept that you don't have the right to pass your prejudices on to others.
excuse me? thats also telling people to suck it up. if someone is doing something to you that you do not want and you tell them to stop and they don't, that is harassment. period.
I'd like to contest that "period"
Quote:
Harassment (either harris-meant or huh-rass-meant) n. the act of systematic and/or continued unwanted and annoying actions of one party or a group, including threats and demands.
The behaviour i've heard described does not come within the definition of systematic or continued. If someone lol-whips you and you ignore them, it will not continue for more than a few minutes. I also see no "threats or demands" tied to this.
If they would whip you and PM you with a request or threath, and follow you around and do this for an extended period of time, THAT would be harassment. What I hear described in the forums is plain childish behaviour or silly pranks.
By calling this harassment, we'd be offending anyone who is the victim of actual harassment, and tieing up the resources that are meant to protect the real victims!
To those who see this as a serious problem I'd like to say this: So this little corner of the world does not suit your taste? Tough luck! There are billions of people in the world, and everyone has different preferences! Noone can expect the world to bend to their singular will. (except Chuck Norris) How about showing a little respect and tolerance towards other peoples, instead of demanding everyone adapts to fit your liking?
Guys. best to let the thread die. Brandon has already said they will investigate and discuss with devs.
if the person in question has an issue with another player they can report them or raise a ticket. unfortunately any discussion here on the forum on this is always going to go downhill and it seems neither side is willing to accept the others opinions or concerns. with that. i am out.
looking forward to the removal of more functionality in a future patch should cryptic decide they would rather deal with the hassle of indignant players who have paid for an item not being able to use it, versus indignant players offended by pixels.

Crashing the connection in pvp is not intentional. its an unintended side effect that is unavoidable by players using the carriers in pvp. I'm sure they're going to try to fix that. However, people running around ESD with those breen weapons and mass freezing people is very much an intentional act. They have no legitimate reason to even be doing it, let alone on the scale to screw up anyones connection.

Claims of harassment here are not within reason, end of story.
You can say how you feel it does not matter if its not within reason.
excuse me? claims of harassment are very much 'within reason' here. just as they were with the breen weapon incidents.

I have not read anything within reason to show that anyone was been harassed within reason.
Sorry if anyone here is feeling harassed over a virtual game.
But it has to be said its not within reason .
not one word you just said makes any sense. being a game has zero to do with it. people get in trouble for harassing others in games all the time. why do you think anti harassment policies are in place for all these companies?

harassment is harassment. telling people if they don't like it to leave is unacceptable

ignoring might stop some, it does not stop all. don't even try to claim it does. spend enough time in mmos and you'll find many people who get their amusement out of harassing others and causing others problems.

excuse me? you just quoted exactly what I described. someone does something to you, you tell them to stop, they continue to keep doing it. that is harassment. and clearly you don't understand that such actions may include threats or demands but do not require such to be harassment.

excuse me again: how about not harassing people when they tell you to stop doing something to them and you wouldn't be in that position in the first place

thats offensive and paying for something doesn't give you the right to harass anyone with anything
