You may be right about Eng for me being a good career. I'll look into it more, and who knows, maybe I'll find a way to not sacrefice too much of DPS, while still be able to do my tasks.

Thanks for all the advice. For now though I'll focus on getting the game running before I decide on anything else.

Seems that I discovered what could be the main issue here, though I can't send the screenshot.

I have McAfee installed on my notebook (which I'm currently using) and right after launching the client (just to the first log-in menu) I got a communicate that my antivir's (MA, mentioned at the beginning) firewall blocked, here I quote: "Cryptic Media/Game (not really sure here what the name was) Launcher", because it found this program as one that has harmful effect on my sytem through net.

I installed the game and added the client to the exceptions in McAfee Firewall, but I'll wait with patching till tomorrow. It's already late here (23:25, I live in Poland, Middle-Europe) and I'm working tomorrow morning.

If this helps in recognizing my issue and you find a way to help me then I'll appreaciate all advice I can get!

I already checked my inbox and sent you a reply.

However a new issue came, this time about some patch file. Here is the screenshot: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/207/sto7.jpg/

You have mentioned earlier about removing all hogg files from the folder where I installed the game. Where should I look for them?

hogg files are located in the /piggs folder. you should also delete ones in the playtest /piggs (if you used the test server) and in the prepatch folder as the launcher will use files there if they are current to reduce download times.

I tried to delete all hogg files, but all I got was a critical crash, and a message about debugging the system. Everything is alright now.

Still I don't know if I have to delete before or after the patch, as I did it afterwards first time. Also there was always a message in all previous crashes http://img196.imageshack.us/img196/1944/sto2o.jpg about the handler being read-only... Hell if I know what it means... I tried to check all the hogg files singularly, but I found nothing.

I'm really losing patience to this game...

sound like your av is leaving the hogg files locked after the av does a scan. you may have to exclude the sto folder from the av scans.

But I don't even see it scanning anything. Also I don't know how to exclude the STO from scanning (it's already added to exceptions, but scanning... I don't see that option, not at least for singular programs).

Also I don't know how it's possible, but after I changed my client to download the game (now it's "Star Trek ST.17.20111218a.12") and installed the game from it, the patch is now always 1GB, and the game works after patching. However when I close the client and want to play the game again, then I get a message of a locked file that can't be writable (or something like that). The problem disappears every time I re-install and re-patch the game, but it reappears whenever I close the game/client...

The AV doesn't have anything to do with it apparantly, because even if it's closed, the problem is still there. And deleting the hogg files doesn't help either.
