They're pricey, but you might want to look into 2 Maintenance Engineers. 1 Purple & 1 Blue will bring a single copy of Eng Team down to 16s rech.

Which means you only require a single copy, and can add an extra power.

I don't believe healing is useless.

However, I feel that Cruisers have a better ability to keep themselves alive as it is more efficient due to their higher hull than both Sci Ships & Escorts as well as better shield capacities than Escort.

They also have the potential for much, much higher shield resistance through EPTS 3 as well as more +resistance powers overall.

With 9/9 ranks in Threat Control and an aggressive playstyle, Escorts hovering above a cube maximizing their DPS and won't really need that many heals in the first place.
