# 1 Tactical officer and ships?

Hi guy's just wondering if the odyssey ships are viable playing as a tact officer, or are they best with engineer?

I'm currently using the MVAE but finding that while i'm doing some nice dmg i am getting hammered in some space missions stf's etc and finding that even with several shield heals i'm not lasting long when the cubes/ grouped sphere's notice me.

If not the odyssey then any other suggestions for ships would be appreciated.

It sounds to me that you do not really need a new ship but a new concept on how to play your Escort. In my opinion, it sounds like to me at least, that you need to work on a bit more of hit and run tactics or as I call it: Alpha in and Omega out!

Escorts simply do not have the staying power of a Cruiser and cruisers simply do not have the spike damage potential of Escorts.

So if you like you current ship, you should learn the brilliance of the Alpha Attack run and Omega withdraw.

Basically, you move toward your target who should have first been engaged by a Cruiser to draw attention away from you. Then, at about 5km you buff all of your attacks and let that sphere have it. You will be moving the entire time! So time your attack to start and finish just as you nearly ram your target. Next, you will about face use APO as needed due to Borg Tractor Beams, use this with an Evasive maneuvers to swing out of range, looping back to do another attack run.

You will survive a whole lot more this way and… and… if you have a friend who is an escort; coordinate that Alpha in and Omega Out attack run to do it together. The two of you should in a single run be able to destroy an Elite Spheres in that 5km span. If not, something is wrong with your builds!

Anyway, that is just my opinion, one of I’m sure many.

I am a tactical officer and the odyssey doen't have the raw firepower of my escort(I have both and still my Odyssey). The secret with escort is to keeep moving full trottle, specially when attacking cube or sphere. Defence rating go up as you move faster. So you have to specialize or learn hit and run tactic. Usually I need 2 to 3 pass on sphere and when doing cube get on top (no torpedoes) and use tactical team I and every others shield and heal buff you have and I rarely have to break of on normal cube and, depending if I do the most damege which get me agro on the cube, (it happen often when playing with lower dps players). On tactical cube samething but I almost always break off at lest once to heal and recharge shield.

Others tricks, use prepare for impact with dof shield distribution office rare and purple if possible (in your space slot of your dof), green at the very lest, when you gets damage it get a good chance of regenerating your shield. I found that Maco shield are best for me with omega deflector and engines. 2 neutronium armor give me the extra resistance to survive if I get into trouble. Mostly I found as you're moving an weaving a lot you get hit less often.

On a final notes keep 2 TT I and don't use any team at all in your science and engineering bridge officer, they share cooldown with TT I. I use them constantly and they are you best friend, combine to EPtS, RSP, hazard emitters and transfert shield streng. I rarely break of because I need to heal and just love blowing borg up. Bye the wey I have the Tactical escort retrofit and I rarely use the cloak except for Donatra in Khitomer space where I like to get under 2 km behind her uncloak and just open up on her with every buff I have (cannon are most effective under 2 km) and stay behind at all cost. It also help to stay alive when you have big friend with extend shield and such ;-) don't have to brake off then

Keep your escort and keep moving you'll die less, also weave about escort are crazy maneuverable use it to make yourself a hard target to hit

Weaving doesn't improve your Evasiveness. It might throw off a Human who commits to the other direction with out a back up plan.

Thx for taking the time to reply guy's and in such detail, i suppose it was mostly due to me getting so frustrated yesterday in infected elite stf, the amount off nanite sphere's/ sphere's i had on me at any given time was nut's, i would start hit and run but with the amount i would have to slow to just increase my dps output but was dying so much, their was another player at the same spot near the gate but i would die respawn only to find that the other player had just tickled the sphere's, so i was having to rinse repeat to try and save the optional section off the stf.

It just got to the point where i was considering whether a tact officer could be viable in an odyssey. i.e more suvivability without losing a huge amount off dps.

Infected stay away from gate until your ready to take it on. Samething with the cube, I stay away until gate's dead. Gates have beam or torpedoes or whatever that will one shot you if you hull or/and shield are low and severely damage you if you're not.

If you have highest dps you'll get agro even if you don't have skill in threat control. If you do you gonna tend to get everything on your *** real quick making it harder to survive.

@DKnight1000 You're right that it doesn't really makes you harder to hit in pve but I was more tryng to say move about, make attack run turn away look around line up for other attack run, etc.... Since I mostly use chase view help to know what's around ;-)

I would like to stay away from the gate but find that's where i end up as everyone else ignore's the probes coming through, so it becomes more off a attck the probes or lose the optional, maybe i have had a few bad runs so will try as you suggest and see if others take up the responsibility.

Sounds like you had a terrible team, no ship can compensate for that.

My primary toon is Science, but I fly/command a MVAE.

To be fair, I have a Science Odyssey which I still use occasionally, but the thing to remember about the Odyssey class is that it's a Cruiser, and the Odyssey science is therefore a Cruiser with science leanings. It does not, however, have the abilities that a dedicated sci-ship has - you lose sub-system targeting for example.

Still prefer the MVAE over most other ships though - it's manueverable, fast, has good DPS and is just, well..... fun!
