I will quote from the Dev Blog here...

Ferasans are bipedal, have tails that assist their balance, extended maxillary canine teeth and "" large eyes with excellent night vision.""

Ok how come I go into the Mission "What Lies Beneath" and I need a flashlight to see in the dark? Answer me this one Cryptic!

I do not ever see cat's hunting mice in the middle of the night with a maglight!

This is so horrible... its so sad to see a cat running around with a flashlight

Excellent point. Caitians and Ferasans shouldn't need a flashlight in low-light environments.

But I suspect this is another one of those engine limitations... The lighting probably can't be one way for one character and a different way for everybody else.

Not that the lighting in that mission was any good i the first place... That flashlight was a JOKE! It barely lit anything up.

Well, it wasn't really supposed to be good lighting. And thinking about it the flashlight wasn't supposed to help you see better. What it really did was define how much you couldn't see and provide a contrast to the oppressive darkness.

It was all part of a psychological effect designed to keep players on edge. Guess what? It was very effective and "What Lies Beneath?" remains one of STO's best all-time missions.

Perhaps they should have added an aggressive buff to their "perception" as a trait? Kinda like one of the components to "Target Optics"?

@OP this made my day! I have 4 cats and I can just imagine them doing it LOL

I'm sure Cryptic is going to say that cats can't see in pitch black which is true. They need little ambient light but most if not all missions in STO have some kind of ambient light in them. So Ferasans should be able to see much better than humans as long as there is little ambient light in a room or area they're in.

I don't think it should be beyond them to say, just make the torch seem brighter to a Ferasan or Caitian. yes, they can't see in total darkness, but they could make much more use of a little light.

You misunderstand me, I was complaining because I like the idea of the flashlight, but they pulled it off quite poorly. The flashlight they gave you only worked (lighting wise) in certain areas of the compound and failed in most others. For instance, on one wall it worked fine; the way a normal light should, then move down 10 feet from that position and the light disappears and does not light up any of the wall for 30-40 feet.

Other than that, it's an amazing episode. Gave me chills the first time around!

It is pathetic that you would need that flashlight. I understand why it's made like that but nevertheless, pathetic. Either remove the excellent night vision part or give the Ferasan that ability, where light doesn't go below a certain point unless you're in complete, 100% dark (which would probably never happen).

Repeat first sentence.

Repeat previous sentence.

And so on.

The flashlight isn't for you. It's for your BOFFs...

THEY can't see in the dark like you can.
