I use polaron turrets (only 1 beam for subsystem skills) on my carrier to get as much procs as possible (and the firing arc also helps because it turns so slowly). Dps isn't their main task so the loss is acceptable to me.

Something I've wondered. I use one configuration with four dual-arrays forward, turrets and torps aft (mainly due to the power drain of firing all arrays and 4 turrets). How do dual arrays and single cannons compare? Seems like the dual arrays have the tighter firing arcs, and should have greater damage output, but is that what you do get?

for primary energy damage, even on an excelsior duel beam's arc is too low do do reliable damage over time. escorts would have little trouble staying out of your damaging arc, its also not an ideal arrangement when buffed by tactical powers. the only real purpose for duel beams is for an escort to deliver BOs, and you only need 1 for that.

an excelsior with single cannons and turrets backed up with 2 copies of CRF will do much more reliable and potent damage. a single DBB to deliver BO3 on an excelsior is tempting, but it will lower your pressure damage greatly. on a galor though i would call it ideal, with its 10 turn rate and the capability of having 5 tactical powers you could chain CRF 1, BO 3 and 1, with room for TT 1. if only i had a galor.

I don't know about the excelsior, but I use cannons on my tac Ody. The fit is 2x cannons 2x torps (3x borg doffs to reduce reload time) and 4x turrets in the rear. Having 2x torps in the front keeps my power levels high. It seems to do a pretty sick amount of damage. I definately wouldn't use it for PvP. It turns like a pig, but there's not a lot of turning necessary in STF's.

I've played with 3x cannons 1x torp in the front, 3x turret and 1x beam in the rear. Which also kept my power levels high and does better rear damage, but it didn't seem to have the same punch as the above fit.
