Its bad enough you go into a pvp area and see nothing but spammed pets from carriers, its worse the things are dang near unkillable in pvp, but its an abomination that they continue to be supported by cryptic in a star trek universe. Yes I am aware they thought about putting the Akira on screen as a carrier, but ultimately THEY DID NOT. I said this before and ill say this again if Gene Roddenberry wanted carriers to be a main aspect in the Star Trek Universe he would have put them in, during his lifetime.
If cryptic wants to do this, that is of course there choice, but my primary concern is that Star Trek online is becoming Carrier Trek Online. Until these ships are balanced with the rest of the tier 5 ships, and I stop seeing more carriers added to the game, I will continue to loose interest in star trek online.
You can troll me all you want but this carrier business is out of hand.

Well, I would not call this a troll but let's put at least one thing in perspective.
Technically, every one of the larger ships was a Carrier to some degree, including the Enterprise in various incarnations.
They had multiple shuttle bays and could deploy a number of support craft from those bays, including and up to Runabout or Delta Flyer class vessels which were certainly 'gunboat' grade vessels and quite combat worthy.
Does this make them a Carrier? No.
Does it make ships with larger flight bays feasible where the mission parameters would call for considerable numbers of support craft (like evacuating a planet where Hyperonic radiation would utterly disable transporters, a completely canon reference) or regular combat roles in areas like the badlands where fighter grade craft are preferable?
The simple fact is that carrier style ships, knowing that the Runabouts, Flyer's and Peregrines are evident in the Star Trek universe post DS 9 and Voyager (and whatever the combat flyers Wesley et al were flying as part of nova squadron which were precision combat craft), would absolutely become feasible mission roles for the Federation, both combat and non-combat.
I appreciate your love of the canon material friend, but if you are going to pick a deviation to rough up for it's stupidity? I'd be barking up the 'so, Uniforms are not uniform?' argument long before the carrier one.
The new carrier escort is an interesting extrapolation on the existing lore and materials to me.
I don't find it remotely jarring as a natural progression of the ships that would be out there.
I find all us feddies flying Marauders, Jem'hadar ships and Galor class cruisers or pimping mah stahship (spelling intended) with Borg bits WAY more jarring than this.
I'm not one cutting cryptic much slack for their poor choices lately. But this feels like the wrong target to attack mate.
Maybe my point of view reduces your ire, maybe not, but I hope it helps. It's ok to just not like the ship. But I think the canon argument is not especially strong.
