Respecs are a popular C-Store item, but I think many are still hesitant to put in 400 CP for a one-time use when they might only want to tweak a few skills instead of revamp everything.

The idea I am proposing would be to add skill profiles that you can switch between (perhaps in a similar manner to how one switches game difficulty), so that you may have two, three, or more different "skill sets" that you want to be specced into.

That would give players something with a bit more permanence, yet still require respecs to change after the skill profile is established. Players would also get some more versatility so they can more freely switch from a science vessel to an escort without feeling like their skills are hampering their performance.

And Cryptic's incentive? They can monetize this service for several hundred Cryptic Points!

Players win. Cryptic wins. STO wins.

Thoughts and opinions? Would this be something you as a player would be interested in?

Disclaimer: I don't play other MMOs, but this may be very similar to dual-spec/multi-specing.

Not a bad idea. I'm sure there are people would like to be able to do this. I'd probably use this myself.

That's actually a really good idea. I'd pay for that.

Would be good. I've specced my captain for a particular ship. If I change to a different class of ship my skills are being wasted in areas I don't necessarily need them and lacking in others.

Good idea. Still have respecs per slot so Cryptic still get money but players get the flexibility.

Better to just reduce the ridiculously high respec cost. At 400 C, it costs more than the RENAME token. How many games charge more to respec than to rename, if they even let you rename at all?!

Rename is cosmetic change, respec change how your character work in game so it should cost more than any cosmetic change.

And /signed under idea.

I like this. Can have a person specced for PvP, Heal, DPS, Support, and whatever you else you might want.

This was my logic and a big hindrance in changing ships. Sometimes I may need to be more of a tank, other times deal out more DPS -- yet I'm not going to respec every time I switch up.

With the skill profiles I can get the effect I'm after and give Cryptic some money in the process (buying skill profiles nets them far more money than zero respecs), but without spending a fortune in respec tokens.

I agree.
That allows someone who only plays one (or few) toon(s) to use different types of ships effectively. As one such player, I'd welcome it.
