Just wondering, but how many of you actually call the Armitage class the ARMITAGE class?
Speaking strictly semantics here, the new carrier escort that the Akira class was originally conceptualized as is NOT the Akira. The Akira in this game is, and may very well forever remain, as a T3 escort with no special features.
The Armitage class was designed with a similar physical appearance, but it isn't the same. It is still technically Its own ship design, so I think it should only be appropriate that people forget about the Akira and embrace the Armitage as the superior version of the ship that everyone wanted.

Why?
The T3 skins works on the Tier 5 ship. People can fly it as an Akira if they like.
Most people will probably call it the T5 Akira, and I don't see it as a problem.
Armitage isn't a bad name, but it's just not as established as the Akira-class name, and "Heavy Escort Carrier" is verbose and clunky, so no one's going to use that.
Most importantly however, it has been put into the game because of the Akira's popularity. No one (or very few at least) said: "Hey, I'd love a T5 Escort with a hangar bay and Lt. C Engineering BOff station". But plenty said they wanted a T5 Akira, or complained that the Akira shouldn't be a T3.
It may be called the Armitage-class, but it is an effect an answer to calls for a T5 Akira. So that's what it'll be to a big chunk of the playerbase, imo.
Same reason we call other ships the Sovereign, Galaxy, Intrepid, Defiant, Prometheus, etc etc, even though all of them have multiple alternate classes. The Akira is the most popular ship of the type, and the best known - most people new to STO will know what the Akira class is, they won't know the other classes.
If people fly it in the Armitage skin, I'll call it Armitage class. If they fly it with the Akira class, I'll call it Akira class.
It's no different than the movie style Connie is to the series Connie as far as I'm concerned. They're both connies, just one is a more advanced version.
Wait, they can fly it with the Akira skin? Ok, making myself look foolish, I honestly did not know this.
It can use all three standard Heavy Escort skins and the Thunderchild skin if you have it purchased. Which is good cause i think the Armitage's saucer is chunky looking. I'll be pure Akira most likely.
