^^^^^^^^^^^ <= This and I like Pugs to. It makes things different as you have no idea who you'll be teamed with. Making guaranteed pug vs pug matches would be awesome. When I pug, I don't want to go against a premade (sorry Sad Panda's I don't want to be cannon fodder for you guys :p).

Thanks for the update Gozer, and for listening to us . To answer your question:

I like:
  • Objective PvP, so more control/KotH matches like Salvage Operation would be nice (though you could really do with some sort of progress bar to show have close/far the node is from going to either side). But I think that any new objective based maps would be welcomed by the community at this point.
  • The arena maps: Briar Patch and Cracked Planetoid (Solar Wind is awful because of the moving background causing a lot of graphic lag to this day even with settings down).
  • The queue system is pretty solid nowadays it seems as well.

I hate PvP......in every other MMO I have played. I am no good at it in any capacity. That having been said, I must be honest: PvP is the only reason I still play STO. It is very rare that I am actually "good" at something, as I tend to be more average in a lot of areas, but master of none of them. STO PvP has been one of my badges of pride, in that I know that I am far from the best, but I am good at what I do.

What do I love about STO PvP? I love the fast paced firing and flying, the quick thinking it takes to out maneuver someone and catch them at the critical moment when the right amount of buffs that you have calculated and saved up now become the finishing move to take someone out. I love working with a coordinated team against an equally coordinated team (not a team that relies on "Oh crap! Timmy is about to bite it! He is at 2% hull!!! *Extend Shields* Whew...that was a close one. Don't worry about Timmy anymore....he is in near Godmode now..." *Cough* *Cough* Extends shield resist is busted as Hades....*Cough*)

I love evenly matched fights, or as close to even as possible. Despite what many may think, a steamroll match where one side grossly outskills the other is no fun. There is no challenge, and no sense of accomplishment afterwards. I can clearly remember a time when evenly skill teams...even PUG teams, ended up in the same arena, and 45 minutes and carpal tunnel in both wrists later, everyone is slapping each other on the back and shouting "Good Game" at the top of their lungs. I can honestly say it has been over a year since I have had the joy in being in such a match, but even today, I take every PUG match as MAYBE today will be the day I have one of those matches again. Fleet members,RL friends and I knew this was going to happen when F2P came out: players with almost two years of experience were going to go up against two week old Vice Admirals and slaughter them....usually over and over and over again. There were a few that shined and stuck it out, rose through the PvP ranks and have earned their names is the fictional PvP Hall of Fame, but many cried "Hackers! OP! This sucks and is pointless!" and were never heard from again.

What do I love about PvP? Something I haven't had in a long time: a true sense of a well played game against a group of people who know what it is to loose 15-14, but still able to say that it was a well fought and well earned victory. Epic battles that at the end of the fight, we all respect each other a little more. How do you program PvP matches to include respect and dignity? I don't know....that is why you guys are the designers, and I am just the Merc with a Mouth who love a good fight. Not an Extends circle jerk, not a match where I just hit spacebar and roll through the opposition, but a match that after it is over, I have to go smoke a cigarette just to give my arms a break and watch OPvP explode with "OMG! We just had this awesome match! Player X, damn good flying! Player Y, way to hang in there and survive all that damage! Damn GG all!"

That is what I love about PvP, and I want it back....some way, some shape, some form. I want a game of skill where we all respect each other in the end, not scowl and spit venom.

And taquitos........................taquitos in every players ship. Only because taquitos is just fun to say..............taquitos.......

Like:

1) The complexity of the build system. There are multiple viable builds for PvP rather than one 'perfect' build. (The fact that many powers were altered for reasons other than PvP creating fewer viable choices was to my thinking a telling blow against the long term playability of PvP.)

2) Multiplayer. While some want lower numbers of ships in matches, I would like to see much higher numbers in a single match. Kerrat, (with all it's known flaws,) is proof that many others also want a massive battlefield. Odds be damned, I want a free-for-all where anyone can go to pew any time of day or night without respawining every ten minutes right on top of one another in a great big ball.

3) Teamwork is a primary factor in great PvP experiences. 5v5 is virtually perfect for this, in limiting the number of power-builds a team can have while requiring a number of healing and support ships. Premade vs. Premade will likely not benefit from greater numbers and can be demonstrated to be less satisfying with fewer. Mass melees for PuG's, but for a well coordinated team, 5v5 is the way to go. If only we didn't have to resort to a third-party communication system to overcome the deficiencies of the STO Voice.

Someone mentioned it earlier -> fairly low gear requirements.

I hate gear treadmills and pvp always feels the worst in mmos. Nothing worse than getting a fresh char to max level only having to spend the next few months being one-shot by the players who have the latest gear in pvp matches.

If pvp is to retain my interest then it must have low gear barriers. The only barriers should be lack of skill and knowledge which are fun and non grindy ways of improving yourself.

Iím not asking what you donít like, just if there is anything that you do like about it.
I like that it's not forced on people that aren't looking for PvP (ie: not fully open World PvP)

Iíll continue to do weekly updates, but just as a reminder some weeks may not have much information. This week for example is a small update. I also saw a great suggestion in last weekís thread that I think Iíll incorporate into the weekly updates, which was if I donít have much to talk about I should pose a question to the PvP forum to discuss.
I like this, thanks. With something as long-term and possibly game-changing as PVP additions, I think many of us feel that regular communication/exchange of ideas is not just necessary but appreciated.

I personally like cross-faction Q's, I wasn't a happy camper when Feds got FvF, and I'm not really fond of the idea KDF and Fed mixed teams. I read last week "Starbases scream PVP' to you, as they do I, but I feel that if Faction vs Faction PVP remains in STO, this is where it should be (Starbase PVP).

I like Shanty Town, I've always felt Ship interiors were really constricting to Ground PVP. I like Ground PVP'ing in open areas, and the landscape of Shanty Town (buildings, multiple levels) is very appealing. The Ground map from 'Cutting the Chord' would be great to PVP on, imo.

I like War Zones, Otha and Ker'rat both, I'd like to see the idea expanded to include other maps with other enemy PC's involved (the Breen, Devidians, Undine).

I like Objective based PVP, as with War Zones and Shanty Town and Cap n Hold.

I like big matches, meaning many players on each team.

I like the customization of builds, but find the Ground skill tree to be a bit wonky, espescially tthe way it limits points while levelling. I remember talk of maybe introducing customizable kits, I'm wondering if this is still in the cards?

  • Low Gear Dependency - Sure, there are the STF sets and they basically ruin a lot of item choice, but it doesn't really matter whether you have the Mark XI or Mark XI variants, and even the "old" style STF sets are still highly competitive. I don't like to grind to have a hope of being competitive in PvP, and I don't need to do that in STO.
Just gonna quote this guy and be done with it. What kept me in sto pvp originally was that I didn't have to win by buying multi-million ec loot of the auction house. Like, I didn't need a high level alt to "feed" my lieutenant level captains to compete. When I lose, i've generally always had the feeling I was beaten by better players, not better geared players.

C-STORE and especially lock-box ships are sort of ruining that feeling for me, though.
